Informal Amusements Claim Attention August Is not a dull month, nor a quiet month, but people do entertain on a smaller scale, and more infor mally aa the heat rises. Everyone Is either giving a picnic, or being enter tained at some out-of-doors function. for as few guests at a time as possl ble. There have been a number of small al fresco dinner parties, several amusing swimming pa. ties, and a few Interesting little bridge games. The many nearby resorts are claiming a large quota of our more socially minded, who are fortunate enough to have their families and friends about them for entertainment. Luncheon And Bridge Party Mrs. Fred Greene wss hostess at a lovely luncheon last Friday at her home on East Main street. Following the delicate repast, the guests enjoyed an afternoon of enter tainment consisting of two tables of bridge. Gates Family at Lake Mr. and Mrs. 0. E. Gates am enter taining members of their family from the east, at Lake of the Woods for a week. Before the outing. Mrs. George Gates Invited a number of friends of the two families to a garden party, which took place In the beautiful Gates garden on Minnesota street. Oak drove Extension Plcnlo The Oak Grove Home Extension Unit held a get-together meeting and swimming party at the Jackson Hot Springs Friday afternoon. There were about twenty-five members and frlenda present. Mrs. Good road's relatives from North Dakota, were glad to enjoy the hospitality of our extension unit. . Mabel Mack gave a very Interesting discussion on the home maker sum mer camp which was held last week. Mrs. Eva So verso n, leader of Trail Extension unit had Just returned from summer camp and read many Interesting poema and items which were contributed to tne camp news paper by the womm attending the camp. Such an enjoyable time was reported by those attending the sum mer camp we will oil wish to go next year. All members are moBt heartily urged to be present. Nebraska Visitors Leave for Home Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Pease have been entertaining Mr. Pease's mother. Mrs. Mary Pease, and her grandchildren, Dorothy and Robert Thorpe, for the past three weeks. The visitors left for their homes la Paxton, Nebr., late last week. Pennsylvania Trip For Miss Haas Miss Pauline Haas, who has been the guest of her grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. W. H. Hockman for some time, leaves tonight by train for home. Miss Haas will stop for a day In San Francisco, a short time In Los Angeles, and go on to New Orleans for a day. She will spend some time In Chicago, before arriving at her home in Predonla, Pennsyl vania about August 20th. Llndley and their daugh ter, Miss Virginia Llndley, at their residence In Ooker Butte. Auxiliary Will Present Play Tuesday Mrs. Raymond Crawford will be hostess to lsdlea of the auxiliary of the First Baptist church at her home, route 3, the old Pacific high way, Tuesday evening. Phoenix Scouts IMrnlc Olrl Scout troop No. 8 of Phoenix held their annual attendance picnic at the McKee bridge swimming pool on Big Applegote Wednesday, Auit 4. This event Is sponsored by the lead ers for the patrol having the best attendance record and scouts from other patrols having perfect atten dance records. Tins year the Cedar patrol and Prances Nordqulst of the Chickadee patrol were the winners. The day wot spent In hiking, swim ming, taking pictures and outdoor cooking. August 15th, will be a red-letter day for Hillah Temple Shrlners, when they will gnther at Jackson Hot Springs for a glorious, old time Shrine picnic. . The festivities will begin at four In the afternoon, with athletic events starting at that time. Something Interesting has been arranged for every minute of the time, from a baseball game to a scramble for' the boys and girls. Then, the main event, the picnic, win take place at six o'clock sharp. Every Shrlner Is urged to be present with his fez, his card, snd his family. Shrlners are asked to bring well filled picnic baskets, and utensils, but Ice cream, coffee, cream and lemonade will be served by the com mitter. Later In the evening moving pic tures of the Detroit Imperial session, a travelogue, etc, will be shown. Dancing at the Chateau will be en Joyed by those who wish to prolong the evening. . . Leave for First Part of Long Trip Miss Dorothy Roberto and her sister, Mrs. Robert Maentz and small son, left last night for San Francisco, where they will spend a few days be fore starting east. Mrs. Maentz will go to her home In Allegan, Michigan, and Miss Roberts will continue to New York, to start her trip on the continent. Juvenile Club Has Meet The Juvenile club met Saturday morning at 11 o'clook, using room S4 of the Armory as their club room. Acting president for this meeting was Miss Virginia Lovell. Threo guests of the club attended, consisting of Vallavee Vsndegrlff from South Dakota, Margery Sullivan and Carmen McOrew of Klamath Palls. Miss Lovell secured the prize of fered for the bean bag grme. and fol lowing this refreshments of sand wiches and punch were served. Entertainment was . provided by Eugene Bennett who plaved a piano solo and by Barbara McOrew who did a tap dance. An Interesting report was given by Virginia Lovell on the subject of "What I Did at Scout Camp." Motor Trip and Vacation at Beach Mr, and Mrs. Floyd Hart and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hart and their fam ilies are spending the week-end at White Rock beach near Crescent City, Calif. They left here by motor car and trailer Friday afternoon for the coast resort. Motor Trip to Montana Among those leaving Medford for vacations last " weak were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wagguer, residents of this city, who left for Heiena, Mon tana by automobile Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Wagoner plan to visit Mrs. Waggner's mother. Mrs. Flshl, In Helena, and will return to. Medford August 16th. Northern Trip - Greatly Enjoyed Mrs. John Barneburg and Mrs. May K. Qreen and Miss Margaiet, Kellogg returned Friday from a delightful holiday trip to the nortn Mrs. Barneburg and Mrs. -Green sailed from .Seattle July 22nd, on the S. S. Aleutian for a pleasure trip to Alas ka. Upon their return, they were joined by Miss Kellogg, who has been visiting for some time in the north ern cities. Return From Two Month In Canada Mrs. J. D. McPherson and her daughter Jean have roturnad to their home after an extended tour ox Can ada. The trip was made by automobile, ana during the two months visit they spent much of their time at he vari ous Canadian lakeside resorts and cities. Hendersons Home - From Cabin Party Among those of Medford who pre ferred camping trips to social outings were the Ray Hendersons and daugh ter Lei a. Accompanied by Bill Vawter, the Hendersons have spent an enjoyable week's vacation at Thorndike'a -cabin on Union creek, where fishing proved to be their greatest pastime. The Hendersons and their guest re turned late Thursday eve ilng to their residence on West Jackson. (AP Chairman Walsh (D., Mass.) of ths senate naval affairs committee pro posed today that the navy be author ized to lease six destroyers to the Brazilian government.
