I. oatea, Mr. Crlpe was formerly coach of the Ashland high school and now holds similar position In Olendsle. He la with the summer staff ot Crater Lake national park. . Ouests at the O. K. Oates home last week were Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Ferris of Compton, Calif., and family. Mrs. Ferris Is a niece of Mrs. Oates. They were stopping here en route north on a vacation trip. Young Duett and Host Oo North Recently greeted by the valley younger set was Henry Swafford of Los Angeles, who wss the house- guest of young Martin Luther at the Luther boms bere. The two left early this week for Vlotorla, B. 0., where they were to join frlenda from California for a va cation of camping in the north. They were accompanied north by Don Root, son of Mr. and Mrs. Myron Root. Executive Meeting Planned for Tonight Announcement haa been made of an executive meeting of the circle of the First Christian church to be held this evening at 8 o'clock at the home of Kay Barbour, 411 Woodstock street. AU officers and group leaders are expected to be -present and members of the group in charge of Louise Ladd are also expected to attend. Miss Cormany to ' Visit In North Leaving over the week-end was Miss Frances Cormany, who plans a week's at&y In Roseburg. one will be the guest of relatives and friends In Roseburg end ejtpects to return home at the end of this week. Phoenix Residents Entertain Visitors. A number of out of town visitors are being entertained at valley homes during the summer, the i. c. Rey nolds borne near phoenix being among this week's centers of hos pitality. Mr. and Mrs. I. 0. Bradley and family of Werdner, Idaho; Mr. and Mrs. Don Masters of Kellogg, Idaho; Mrs. J. Masters and son, Day, of Joplln, Miss,; and Mrs. Rachel Imer eon of Astoria. Ore., are all guests at tna Reynolds home. Walts Spending Summer In North. Med ford residents spending part of the summer months away from home Include Mr. and Mrs. P. Wilson Walt, who are now visiting In Seat- tie, wn. They plsn to be away most of the remainder of the summer. -' HONDURAN VISITOR AT Two entertaining speakers contrib uted to the program today at tbe weekly luncheon meeting of the Medford Rotary club at the Hotel Medford. Joseph Walter, commissioner from Honduras and la prominent Rotartan of that country, told of the ecope and aotlvltlea of Rotary International In Central America. Mr. Walter has resided In Hondurss for 30 years and la thoroughly conversant with the customs of the people of Central American republics and hla descrip tion of that Motion ot the weetern hemisphere waa greatly enjoyed by the Ko tartans and guests. Angua Bowmer,, a member of the faculty of the Southern Oregon Nor. mal School entertainingly told the Rotarlana of bla recent visit to England and the continent, de scribed his thrilling experiences In Home during a practice aerial raid on that city and pictured the beau ties of other cities he visited. "Thrilling and depressing" waa Bowmer's reaction to Rome. While In England. Professor Bow mer studied the Eltrabethan atage and amassed Information and data which are being used In the Shakes pearean productions to be presented at Ashland. Stage settings, without scenery but with effective lighting, drspes end brllllsnt costumes, will be featured at Ashland In the at tempt to faithfully reproduce the playa of the Shakespeare era, Bow mer said. Pomeroy, 73. senior member of the Jewelry firm of Pomeroy dc Keene of Salem, died at Seaside Saturday, of a heart attack. He was a native of Oregon. CHANCELLOR WILL SEEK SUCCESSOR TO OREGON FREXY Board of Higher Education Reelects All Officers Boyer to Carry On Until Successor Is Designated MAR8HFIELD, Ore., July 27. (API Frederick Hunter, chancellor of tbe Oregon system of higher education, baa been authorized to seek a suc cessor for Dr. c. V. Boyer, who has submitted his resignation as presi dent of tbe University of Oregon, Wll. lard Marks, president of the educa tion board, said today. The announcement was made at a summer meeting of the board bere at which Marks waa re-elected presi dent. All other officers also were re elected with E. C. Pease. The Dalles, continuing as vice-president, and E. O. Sammons, Portland, as third mem ber of the executive committee. Boyer to Carry On Marks said that Boyer, who startled educational circles a tew weeks sgo with his request thst he be permitted to resign, effective September 1, be cause of the strain on his health, will be expected to carry on for a reasonable time even though a new president haa not been chosen or la not Immediately able to till the poet on that date. The process of selection of a suc cessor will be similar to thst em ployed In the choice of 0. E. Howard, former superintendent of publlo In struction, as president of the Eastern Oregon Normal school at La Grande. Dr. Howard was recommended to the board by the chancellor. Successor Discussed Dr. Bunter will report on bis pro gress to tna entire board rather than to any special board committee and Marks said that discussion of a suc cessor has already been entered Into by the board but that nothing can be announced regarding Its plans. He made no comment on whether the board will go outside of tbe state or seek someone within Oregon for the presidency. In another major step, ths board deferred final consideration of a pro posed old age annuity for stair mem bers not under such a program. Rob ert Ruhl, chairman of the Insurance committee, presented the' essence of a program favored if, and when, the board has funds to match at least partially those contributed by the staff. His program would eliminate many of the penalty features of the origi nal proposal, and the board, after an extended discussion, ordered the ln aurance and finance commltteea to continue the atudy and formulate a detailed proposal when available fin ances have been determined more ac- oxirately.
