submitted his resignation as presi

lard Marks, president of the educa
tion board, said today.
The announcement was made at a

continuing as vice-president, and E.
O. Sammons, Portland, as third mem
ber of the executive committee.
Boyer to Carry On
Marks said that Boyer, who startled
educational circles a tew weeks sgo
with his request thst he be permitted
to resign, effective September 1, be
cause of the strain on his health,
will be expected to carry on for a
reasonable time even though a new
president haa not been chosen or la

The process of selection of a suc
cessor will be similar to thst em

former superintendent of publlo In
struction, as president of the Eastern
Oregon Normal school at La Grande.
Dr. Howard was recommended to the
board by the chancellor.
Successor Discussed
Dr. Bunter will report on bis pro

Marks said that discussion of a suc
cessor has already been entered Into

be announced regarding Its plans.
He made no comment on whether the
board will go outside of tbe state or
seek someone within Oregon for the
presidency.
In another major step, ths board
deferred final consideration of a pro
posed old age annuity for stair mem
bers not under such a program. Rob
ert Ruhl, chairman of the Insurance
committee, presented the' essence of
a program favored if, and when, the
board has funds to match at least
partially those contributed by the
staff.
His program would eliminate many
of the penalty features of the origi

extended discussion, ordered the ln

The old normal school property In
Ashland was ordered disposed of for
