British Golf Pros Crack Under Pressure Fans Lack Sportsmanship T FIZZLES DURING FINAVCLUTCH' Gene Sarazen Burned Up By Treatment Accorded Americans; Will Play No More in Britain After Open 80BTHPOBT, Eng., July 1. (AP) England' professional golferi limply ean't takl It very well under pres sure. That's the painful and reluctant conclusion drawn after .watching them with a couple of notable ex ceptions flczle out like damp fire crackers In the concluding stagea of the Ryder cup matches yesterday. The margin of eight points to four by which the Americans won their first cup match on British soil doesn't necessarily reflect the dif ference In the brands of golf ahot by the two countries. Playing against themselves and In practice, England's tare have proved they can knock the spots off their golf courses. Dudley Comes Through. Bd Dudley, whose finishing quali ties bad been questioned at home, brought out some of the most brtl llsnt golf of his career In the final decisive nine holes. His opponent, Alfred Perry, like every other mem ber of the British team except Henry Cotton, David Reea and Bam King, couldn't stsnd the pressure. Oene Sarazen, three down with only 12. holea to play, came home a winner, against Percy Allies. Oene,' burned up at the treatment accorded the Americans by the galloping crowd of at leant 12,000 yesterday, doesn't Intend to play In England again after next week's open at Carnoustie. -. Police Help Brltliher. ffarawn didn't particularly mind the loud cheers when he missed shots. He's accustomed to that. What really got his goat was an Incident at the 14th hole when the gallery police, finding All::' ball Just out side the playing confines, moved the out-of-bounda marker back several yards, so their man wouldn't lose a stroke. "That'e when I made up my mind to beat him," aald Oene. At the lath hole In the afternoon, with the situation tense and the re sult still In doubt, Denny Bhute holed . an Important 10-foot putt. There were at least 4000 spectators clustered on the four peaks sur rounding the femous green. Yet, a woman's voloe exclaiming "Oh, boy I" ounded like the crack of a whip amid the desthly silence thst fol lowed the fine shot. (AP) Ted Broadrlbb, manager for the British heavyweight, Tommy Purr, announced today he was starting negotiations with Nat Flelcher of New York, for a world heavyweight title fight in the United Stale between Parr and Joe Louis. Should the negotiations go through, Broadrlbb declared, Parr'a fight pre viously scheduled for August 0 with Max Schmellng would be cancelled. Broadrlbb said his sudden move for a match with Louis came from his annoyance at the decision of the British boxing board of control to recognise the Pnrr-Schmellng fight aa for the world title. "I do not agree with the board of control ruling," Broadrlbb aald. "We consider Louis the world cham pion and would rather meet him than Schmellng for the title." Use Mall Tribune want ads.
