Including the appointment of ftev. Eugene Hcdred, 0.fl , aa Bead of the Institution. Don t Miss The Circus KJO one will deny the importance of Medford, as an airport. ' The pregent municipal air field, and ita strategic advan tages in air transportation, comprises one of this community's most valuable assets. Anything that will advertise this fact, and therefore stimulate its greater' development, will be all to the good, as far as Medford is concerned. This coming Friday, thanks to the energy and enterprise of the' local chapter of the National Aeronautical Association, a coast'wide air circus will be held at the municipal airport There is no question about the high quality of the demonstration that will be staged.' There will be thrills galore; stunts of sur passing daring, with some of most skillful pilots,, (men and women) in this part, of the country, participating. Moreover this will be the first showing of the circus in the state, Medford leading the list of ten cities, to be visited, . in the greatest demonstration ever staged in Oregon. ' In addition to the stunt flying there will be an exhibition of . the latest . development in airplane construction, all ' the participating planes being lined, up on the field for public inspection, aa a preliminary to WE doubt if there is any need, from an attendance stand point, nt tnvinir mich a venture anv editorial boost. There is still no thrill like an air thrill. Not only Medford but. all southern Oregon, is enthusiastically air minded. We would predict a record breaking crowd at the air field, on that day, regardless. , But such is boost is in' order-nevertheless. If this were strictly a private venture for profit, there would be nothing particular ' for us to say.' . But ' it isn't. There will be(an admission charge. The air circus must be given a guarantee and a large one. BUT whatever profit there may be, over the guarantee, will be devoted directly or .indirectly by' the local organization to the advancement of Medford as an airport. SO we are glad to call this circus to the attention of our readers and urge them to attend.' It will not only be a great show, but the stronger the public support the more successful the venture proves to be,' the more widely will Medford 'i air mindedness be known in aviation circles, and the more certain will the proper development of the local airport be. That makes this air circus of genuine public concern. It's' not too early now to take down your calepdar and mark Friday, July 2nd, as go-to-the-circus day. Whatever you do, don't miss it. . ' . Will F. D. R. Run Again? PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT, informs Senator Wagner he' will not be a candidate for a third term. That is one precedent, he remarks, that he will not break. A wise decision, and one that will undoubtedly be kept , Also, a decision that, will- remove' a'.. heavy, burden, . from thousands .of agitated and mournful hearts, particularly in the upper brackets. . . ; To them for over "four.lorig years" F. D. R. has been a pain in the neck, as well as in the pocket book. A little over three more years, now, and another presidential campaign, will be on, and the Democrats (thank God I)' will have another can didate. The winter of their discontent will then be over, they can. draw' a deep breath of telicf, for Franklin D. Roosevelt will have' retired permanently to private life! ', . "KM EBBE so, mebbe so." "1 But it would be interesting if one possessed a crystal ball that could accurately reveal the future. - What WILL' be the political situation, on r the Fourth of July 1940 1 We wonder, we wonder! ' Will John L, Lewis be a presidential candidate, on a Fanner- Labor ticket, receiving the support of an aroused proletariat 1 Many of .the wise boys in Washington believe he. will be. And if so, what thent QAT what you will, John L. and a shrewd one. When he thumps the table and shakes his shaggy eyebrows, no one within the sound of his voice or the range of his dynamio personality, is going to .sleep. . , As a rough and ready campaigner, he too would have what it takes. And who would there be to oppose him t: ; Where in the Democratic party is',' there anyone to take Franklin D. Roosevelt's placet Who, from tho standpoint' of GETTING THE VOTES, could fill one of his shoes, much Icsb two of them! And the Republican party!.. Shades of-Governor Lamloh and Frank Knox (shades is the term!), who will be astride old Jumbo three years hence, and how effective will he be against a man like John L, Lcwisf . . , KIAj entirely speculative of course, and depending upon a .number of unknown factors, to-wit: ' ' ' , Whether or not there will be a war in Europe i whether or not, the business recovery will continue, or there will be another break; whether or not, organized labor continues to feel its oats, and kick up its heels, or shows some restraint and common sense, NEVERTHELESS our advice to the Rooscvclt-haters would be, not to advertise their jubilation, over the glad tidings from tho White House too exieusively. ' It might prove em barrassing later. For a great msny things can happen in two years. ' . And one of them might be, the threat of a radical labor government, supported by all the disaffected elements in this country (not excluding the Communists), under the able and forceful leadership of John L. Lewis. Not at all likely .we admit. In fact less likely today, than it was six months ago. But one never can tell, There is nothing certain in love, war or politics. And if such a situation should copie about what then! WELL that's simple. There would be just one battle cry, form all these boys and girls who have been Itiinhaetiiig F.'D. IL, all these years, and praying that sonic kind Providence might somehow remove him "ANYTHING to beat Lewis I' ' Ami being very practical men and women, and where niHteriul interests are joiit'erned entirely realistic, Ihet would be quivk to discover that the only nun in the country lu cuuKl MEDFOKD MAIL the three-hour program. is a smart man, a strong man. TRIBUTE. frfEPFORD, possibly do that, would be the 32nd and 33d president of the United Stater, FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT 1 "TPHIRD term t Who cares anything about that. The country must be saved and F. t. R. is the only man who can do it!" Where then would come the demand that the president change his decision made in June, 1937 f The most vociferous portion from those who are now praying night and day that he WON'T. ' Incredible? "It call 't happen" here!" . Let the developments of the next three years, BE as above outlined, and it not only CAN happen, but it WILL! This has prov ed efficient and safe. For a while aome of the noisy surgeons In that part of Nil the country msde .1 - J.a mn noise than the facts warranted, In their efforts to frighten people about using Iodized aalt. In spite of that , however, the number of goitre operations done In the state of Michigan has decreased steadily since the bulk of the population learned to buy and use Iodized salt Instead of ordinary salt. Iodized salt coats the same and of course, no hu- l man taste can detect one pan 01 potassium Iodide In 5.000 parts or salt. In Midland county, Michigan, among 3.089 school chUdren from homes where Iodized salt Is used In stead of plain salt, only 68 were founds with any signs of goitre. In the ssme community among 1.184 children from homes where Iodized salt waa not used, 178 were found with signs of goitre. No case of hyperthyroidism was found among 47,380 Michigan chil dren from homes where Iodized salt la used regularly. In Ohio the Cleveland health de partment analyzed three different brands of what purported to be "Iodized aalt" and found no lodln In the salt. Several brands were found to contain only a small fraction of the quantity authorized by the health authorities and perhaps claimed on the label. We have long used Iodized salt In stead of ordinary salt In our own home, but I have never had too much confidence In the minute quantity of lodln one can get In that way, even If the aalt contains all the potassium Iodide it purports to contain. I like to have an occasional nip of plain old brown tincture of lodln, or spell It Iodine If you wish to be obstinate about It, In a drlnle of water at least once a week, one or two or three drops of tincture of lodln the same liquid commonly used aa a first aid disin fectant for minor wounds. Tor aome LE 'BOYS STATE' PLAN FOR LOCAL YOUTH Word haa been received here that Medford will have an opportunity to participate In the first "Boys State" movement ever staged In Oregon. Known as the "Bfaver Boys State.' this project Is sponsored by the Ore got department of the American Le gion wltn tho cooperation of various high schools, clvio and service clubs, local Legion posts and citizens. In explaining the movement. Com mander Joe Fllegel of the vMedford post said. "It la au attempt to give boys of high school and early college age an opportunity to atudy their government, - understand It, respect It and preserve It. In the "Boya State" the youtha have their own city and slate governments, and elect their own officials from governor on down." . Commander Fllegel added that the boya operated their government strict ly according to law. The Idea of the "Boya State" la part ot the national Americanization pro gram of the American Legion and has been carried out successfully In numerous states with the approval of prominent educstora and leaders In boys' work, Commander niegel stated. Indorsing the movement enthusi astically, Gov. Charlea H. Martin msde the following statement recently: "The program of the department of Oregon of the Amerlran Legion lor training the youth ot the state In constructive eeir-government Is one that ahould have the whole-hearted support of every cltlren. we can teach the purpce of government and the mutual duties and prlvtlegee of governmental ottices beet by pras tlce. The practice school program outlined for the youth of this state la one which I believe will admirably fuKIU such a purpose." Location of this year'a "Boys State" will be on the banks of the Columbia river at Multnomah falls In Benson park. It will be a completely equip ped CCC camp on land provided by the national park service, with living quarters, a hoapltal. awlmmlng pool, ahowera, sanitary facilities, modern aitchen and meea hall and a recrea tion field. i p OTtEGOy.
