England, June 2o (zpi a course of unhappy memory to American golfers ls Southport and Alnsdalc, straddling and criss-crossing tho sandhills, where the Ryder Cup matches will be contested next Tuesday and Wednesday. That hasen't been revealed by the practice scores of the first couple of days. The American team made It look easy when Rnlph Guldahl. Amer ican open champion, and Ed Dudley shot 67"s and Johnny Revolta 68. Only Sam Snead, who didn't post a score, had trouble as Captain Walter Hagen, Byron Nelson and Henry Pie ard shot 70"s and Denny Shutc and Horton Smith 72's. It was here four years ago that Shute mLssed a putt on the 1 8th crcen, losing the hole to Syd Easter- brook, 6 strokes to 5, giving Eng land's Ryder Cup team victory by the narrowest possible margin. WASHINGTON, June 26. (AP) Treasury officials disclosed today they will ask the 1038 congrrsa for a thor ough overhauling of the tax struc ture, designed to make further chang es unnecessary for many years. Authorities said they hope to elim inate any existing Inequities, clarify the tax statuses and close all revenue "leaks." The tax system was not nroperly coordinated during the fia cal emergencies since the depression, they said. The treasury Is making an all-inclusive study of federal levies with a iew to enactment of a new general rerenue law. This Is apart from the current congressional Investigation In to tax evasion and avoidance. Some of the so-called nuisance taxes may be eliminated, authorities slid, particularly where the ei-yense f collectiqn almost equals revenue. Careful study la being given to the income tax and the new surtax on undistributed corporate profits, but (fflciala said recommendations for revisions have not yet been drafted. CHICAGO, Juiie 26. It said he told them he went to tle Gedeon apartment to wait for Ethel. Mrs. Gedeon came In and fln r.'ly ordered blm from the apartment, the paper continued, when he told her why he was. there. He confessed, the paper added, that he lilt her and strangled her. She put up a terrific fight, the paper quoted him. The Herald and Examiner added that Irwin said Veronica came in a short time later, he held her for nearly two hours oh a bed before he killed her, and then killed Byrnes before he left. The search for Irwin turned to Chi cago today after Cleveland, O., police "definitely" identified as Irwin a youth who boarded a Chicago-bound bus there. Police here and throughout the mid- meat were notified by radio to be on the lookout for the long-mlsslng 20-yoar-old youth after Cleveland au thorities said he fled from a, cheap hotel room a few hours before a Kitchen girl at another hotel notified tl em of his whereabouts. The kitchen girl, Henrietta Kosl-a.-rkl, 19. said the youth had been working at a downtown hotel as a barboy and had used the name of "Robert Murray." Last night, she said, she was thumb ing through an old detective story magazine while in the hotel kit -hen. saw a picture of Irwin and noticed the similarity to "Murray'a" feat. ires. She playfully asked the youth, she tUd. what his real name was ,and later asked If he ever heard of Rob err Irwin. Indifferently, he answered ' no." &he said, walked out of the kitchen and was seen xio more. The Herald and Examiner said Ir win told In detail ho' he killed each nerson. didn't accept the offer. Kublt plan ned to take to Portland a sample of the Applegate river water containing an average amount of silt and trash to prewnt at the meeting. (Contmut from Pac one.) w.tter users of tho Applegate valley. E. W. Kubli, local farmer appeared before the state game commission In Portland Saturday In an endeavor to sbollsh fish screens permanently in Irrigation ditches of this district. Fish screen, in use intermittently here since 1900. have long been an ob stacle to farmers, and It ls the -n-census that there are not sxilficlcnt fish in the Big Applegate river to Justify the expenditure and trouble of screens. Nane installed within the last year are operating at present. Kubli. who left by plane Saturday morning, expected to appear at a special meeting of the commission &nd present the major reasons why screens cannot be maintained suc cessfully here; namely, that the ltme moss carried in the muddy river wat er Jocks in tho screens and eventual ly blocks them; and that the great variation In water levels In the ditch es prohibits rotation of the wheel "If you can hold an equal amount of wtter In the ditch all the time it Is f'ne," Kubli said, "but right now our north side ditch carries 1,000 Inches of water, while In dry season. I has only 100 Inches. We put a screen in our ditch last year, but we couldn't niake It work." In stating that the Applegate should be classified as a non-flshlng stream, Kubli said that nine-tenths of the stream area is fenced and inaccess ible to the public. He also said that the water ls low and stagnant In thu summer and not desirable for flh. In commenting on exaggerations hleh have been mode regarding the large numbers of fish turned on the fit Ids to die after coming through Inlgatlon ditches. Kubli laid h of fered to turn hia ditch dry this spring and Install a screen If a Dum ber of the game commission could find a fish.
