Twas lata In the Fall we sought our home So far from the crowds snd din: And prayed for winter to quickly come And for blizzards to snow us In: It wss quiet wa wanted and salt. tude. Where never a stranger might In. trude. Then came the winter and whirling anow Fell deep over every track; But what cared we If the gales did blow So peevishly round our shack? Within, was comfort enough to eat And love in plenty and lovt la aweet. Ah I many time have we looked hack Aa Quickened memnrv .ftp. To aee in mind that humble shack 'Mid the tamaracks and the firs And feel the thrill of love's bright glow, t As we felt It that winter amid the anow. To remembranoe would come a vision fslr. Of tha forests of stately trees; And the bracing touch of the frosty air As we skimmed the crust an sklls; And sgaln we could hear the wel come crack Ot the big log-fire in our cosy shack. Again we could see the long, steep trail That led to the ranch below, where once a week we went for mall In that winter long ago; And think of delightful evenings spent As we read In the papera each new event. At length came Spring, with a warm ina sun That melted the drifts of snow; our beautiful season of . rest , was done, To the city we had to go; But never did I. nor ever did Bess Forget our shack In the wilderness. I have heard the legend of Adam and Eve In their Garden of mortal bliss, But that Is a story I don't believe And the reason Is simply this The Garden of Eden was Just a shack, Surrounded by fir and tamarack.
