MEDFOKD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFORD OREOOX. THURSDAY. APRTL TA 1037. PAGE SEVEN E OF E Weds Pilot (Contributed) j The Humane society In Medford ! an open federation organized to com bat cruelty to children and antmala anywhere In Jackaon county. The o clety Is Incorporated under Oregon laws. The directorate la composed of men and women in some pnttcal way engaged in humane work regu larly. The Humane society la one of many helping to build and foster anti cruelty movement all over the United States. The humane movement has stamped it impress on every country in the world. Animals must be pro tected from cruelty on city streets, lone farm or mountain range. It la a public necessity. What would hap pen if there were no societies to care for the thousands of homeless ani mals? Disease would be spread, human lives menaced. Take any branch of animal protection work which come to mind the public pays the penalty If it is neglected: the public benefits most If It is properly done. The most miserable creatures In the world are the unwanted domestic animals, cats and dogs or their off-spring turned adrift by heartless owners to search a precarious living. 1 The animal shelter is a necessity in every city. The Jackson County Hu mane society has established one in Medford. The society acknowledges neither favored groups or privileged interests. It stands for Justice. Its support comes from those who be lieve In It. As more people believe In It and support It. more work will be done to relieve the suffering of animals. It is unfortunate that the majority of adults, with their mental and physical strength, cannot see fit to aid helpless creatures when small children find sympathy, understand ing and love in their hearts for the lesser folk. At every step in human progress animals have proved themselves In dispensable to man's welfare. Loyally and faithfully they play their Im portant part In companionship in sport, in building up the industry of the country, in bringing wealth to the public purse. For the benefits that have accrued to the human race from the animal , world, and for their Invaluable aid In forwarding the civilization which we now enjoy, we owe them a larger debt than we shall ever repay. i Report all cases of cruelty to the Humane socletv on the Table Rock road. We will render all the aid that our funds and equipment will permit. LOS ANGELES. April 15. AP) The federal grand Jury today indict ed two of the Marx brothers.
