At present, those receiving aid are approximately the same In number as last year at this time, but are expected to be less later on, according to Bmlth. For the moat part, the some onei con tinue working throughout the year, unless the student's financial condi tion ! Improved or unless It Is shown that someone else needs It more. The arrangement Is purposely flexible. The maximum that any student may receive lor the month Is if. or 54 during the entire year. Hourly wage scales at the local high school rsnge from 38 to 35 cents an hour, according to type of work being done. Moat of those working are receiving the maximum pay at present. The money received goes toward books, clothes, food (school lunches), trans portation and other school necessi ties, which muet be stated definitely on the application. Help school Staff. Many of the students working under this arrangement are assigned to various staff members of the school for aid in clerical or similar duties Two are at prenent employed In the school office. Three or four are given outdoor work on the grounds, keeping and shrubbery In shape, tak ing car of outdoor recreation fields and other such activities. The home economics department absorbs h few glrla who keep the rooms cleaned and straightened or serve In the cafeterlo during lunch hours. ' Those with particular talents are' glvon the opportunity to use them whenever possible, and are paid ac cordingly somewhat higher wages than thoao enguged In purely msnual duties. One student st present Is constantly employed at lettering the numerous signs neceasary about the school or for outaldo purposes. An other, who ahowed a definite car pentry ability, is kept busy repairing chairs and other school furniture.
