WALKER, Treasurer of Jackson Co., Oregon Communications Anything To Get Votea To the Editor: I was considerably lurpMaed by the recent action on the part of James Stevens and Ralph Stephen son, the Democrat nominees for the legislature from this county, In their late endorsement, without qualifica tions of the "Towenaend plan" and was equally surprised by the en dorsement of these candidates by the members of the Townsend clubs. According to such Information aa I have been able to secure, nelthor of these gentlemen seem to have ever before openly supported the Townsend movement or given any evidence of their sympathy with, or their belief In, the Townsend old sge revolving pension plan. If either of them did believe that the "Town send plan" was workable or worthy of support It It not strange that neither of them seem to have taken any active Interest In the movement until they became candidates for the state legislature? It seems qulto apparent that the sudden action of Mr. Stephens and Mr, Stephenson In endorsing the plan, unqualifiedly, the day before the Townsend clubs were scheduled to meet and make their endorse- menta of candidates for certain of. flees, Is In Itself very slgnlflcent, and strongly suggestive that these two gentlemen may be more anxious for votea than they are sincere In their endorsement of principles, In my opinion It would be as great mistake on the part of the people of this county to elect to the legls latum men who might be too willing to endorse movement or project merely for political purpoeee, and without first making a study of the merits of the movement The sincerity of these Democratic nominees waa apparently questioned even by the representatives: of the Townsend movement themselves, for, I am Informed, these solemn "pledges" now repose In a safe de posit vault so tht they msy be con Ytnlently produced in oaee of an LOCAL and PERSONAL Off On Hunt H. I am not questioning the morita of the "Townsend plan" and have no quarrel with those sincere peo ple who bellove whole heartedly that It offere a solution of tneir pron lems, but I do question the advisa bility of electing to our legislature men who seem willing to endorso anything that may seem for the mo ment to be popular and to otter "votea" lrrespoctlvo of their sincer ity In the merits of the movement Itself. Bespoctfully submitted, JACK HEMSTRBET, . Medford, Sept, 35th, .. l.lkcj Itoosevelt, London, Not Hoover To the Editor: I saw an artlole In the press stat ing that Herbert Hoover, In a recent address, made the assertion .that the policy of this administration led to greed, labor ahortage In Industry, a numb dependency of relief recipients and resentment Instead of sympathy toward the unemployed. During his administration, he sold, no one starv ed no corruption, no politics, no waste, etc. Oh, my, what a wonder ful man and what great things he did for the people, And what a shame this great engineer, who prob ably, If he were takon Into a tunnel, wouldn't know elste from porophry was anowed under ao deep that ho went and hid his head for sevortl years, only to emerge after President waa nominated to vent nit tpieen upon a man who beat him to bad that the vote couldn't be counted and allow himself to be made a Jack ass by the Republicans In hopea of making a few votes for Landon ,who I will aay la a mighty fine man and one who would not stoop so low at to mske a statement about President Roosovelt that he knew waa a lie. And I am satisfied that he la too high-minded a man to endorse any sucb assertions that thlt great engi neer la making, which aound like a little cur barking at a big Newfound land dog. In my opinion, we have two mighty fine men running for president and the very beat that could be put up by the Democrat, and itepumicao parties, and that if -President Roose velt It elected that he win con tinue to run the government as he It now doing for what he firmly be- llevet to be the beat interest! of the American people and I believe that Oovernor Landon will do the same. Bo, 1 want to say to the voters, go to the polls and vote for the man who haa been tried and can go right on In place of putting a new man at the wheel and wait for month! and montha for him to get the hang of the ropes, no matter how good a man he Is.
