I was considerably lurpMaed by
the recent action on the part of
James Stevens and Ralph Stephen
son, the Democrat nominees for the
legislature from this county, In their
late endorsement, without qualifica
tions of the "Towenaend plan" and
was equally surprised by the en
dorsement of these candidates by the
members of the Townsend clubs.
According to such Information aa
I have been able to secure, nelthor
of these gentlemen seem to have
ever before openly supported the
Townsend movement or given any
evidence of their sympathy with, or
their belief In, the Townsend old
sge revolving pension plan. If either
of them did believe that the "Town
send plan" was workable or worthy
of support It It not strange that
neither of them seem to have taken
any active Interest In the movement
until they became candidates for the
state legislature?
It seems qulto apparent that the
sudden action of Mr. Stephens and
Mr, Stephenson In endorsing the
plan, unqualifiedly, the day before
the Townsend clubs were scheduled
to meet and make their endorse-
menta of candidates for certain of.

ful man and what great things he
