PACIE TWO MTCDFORT) MATT, TTtTBITNE. MEDFOKD. OT?EOON. THURSDAY. MARCTT 26. 1936. SPENDS 5 HOURS (Continued from ms One.) In the neit few daya. Hauptmann hu been aentenoed to die In the eleotrlc cbalr Tuesday nleht. Attorney General WUent had' lit tle to aay on the examinations nuule la the home. The prosecution etaft," he ald, "felt they had no part In today's In veatlgatlon, but had a fear because of the Improper questioning of at least one of the state police officers by a person or agency without author ity and unknown to us." One of the governor's own investi gators, who 'was present during the examination of the Hauptmann attle, was Leon Hogue, a Mew Tors private detective. Hogue, It was learned, had ques tioned Detective Louis Bronmann. of the New Jersey state police, at length In the Wllburtha barracks of the state police near Trenton a few days ago, Bronmann was the detective who worked with Arthur Koehler, federal wood expert, who testified that one roll of the kidnap ladder rail IB had been cut from a floorboard In the Hauptmann attic, and that the nail holes In the rail matched those In the attic Joists. As the governor left he said he had no plans to question Dr. John P. (Jaf sle) Condon, the Lindbergh ransom negotiator, today, Chicago Wheat CHICAOO, March 3". Yet when the commission's reply was filed In answer to a senate resolurjj tion, ana stated that it was ma King an Investigation on Its own respon sibility, Minton continued, "nothing was said about It." Pertonal Ethics Touched. Minton contended the commission and Black committee Investigators acted under their respective author ity and without prior agreement In searching the telegraph companies' records. Minton told the senate Hearst 'wouldn't know the Goddess of Lib erty IT she came down off her pedes tal In New York harbor and bowed to him. "He would probably try to get her telephone number," he con tlnued, adding that the publisher "wouldn't know the meaning of freedom of the press If the constltu tlon were spread out before him." "He has t peculiar code of ethics for himself Minton said. "He runs his newspapers on the seme -high plane he conducts his private life, At this point Senator Copeland (D N. Y.) voiced an objection to en "attack oa a cltleen of my state, but Minton rejoined: "I have nothing to take back." Communications Advice to the Eagles To the Editor: ' While there Is no doubt I will be condemned bv a great many for what I am going to write, I will have to follow the course of what I believe right. I am referring to the petition of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, that will be circulated here soon. I have the greatest admiration and respect for theEagles and know that they are doing many fine things. and I don't want to see them misled In this proposition. We know from past eiperlence what we may expect from the legis lature of Oregon.. Even If the peti tion should be voted Into a law, the money would have to be raised by a tax of some kind and we aU know Just how the people of Oregon feel on the sales tax.. What we believe would be the best plan would be for the Eagles to get behind the Townaend plan In a body all over the United States and make the old age pension a national law and that would make the law permanent, not to bs ohangtd by the whims of state legislators. Eagles, study this, please. With all respect to the Fraternal Order of Eagles, P. J. K1RKPATRIOK. Btsr Route Box S7. March 38, 1938. ' - Dae Mall Tribune want ads. farketr PORTLAND, Ore., March 20.
