Advice to the Eagles
To the Editor: '
While there Is no doubt I will be
condemned bv a great many for what
I am going to write, I will have to
follow the course of what I believe
right. I am referring to the petition
of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, that
will be circulated here soon.
I have the greatest admiration and
respect for theEagles and know that
they are doing many fine things.
and I don't want to see them misled
In this proposition.
We know from past eiperlence
what we may expect from the legis
lature of Oregon.. Even If the peti
tion should be voted Into a law, the
money would have to be raised by a
tax of some kind and we aU know
Just how the people of Oregon feel
on the sales tax.. What we believe
would be the best plan would be
for the Eagles to get behind the
Townaend plan In a body all over
the United States and make the old
age pension a national law and that
would make the law permanent, not
to bs ohangtd by the whims of state
legislators. Eagles, study this, please.
With all respect to the Fraternal
Order of Eagles,
P. J. K1RKPATRIOK.

FOR RURAL YOUNG
Southern Oregon Volturo, 40 t 8,

According to today's announcement :
"Much has been accomplished, but
there remain thousands of children

show 155,000 cases wltlV.15,000 deaths;
In 1930 this was reduced to 65,000
coses with 6,962 deaths Data for the
first eight months of 1036 show 4.600
fewer cases than a similar period in
1934, while the year 1934 showed 778
fewer deaths than In 1933.
