The National Association of Retail Grocers, an association representing mere than 100,000 Individual retail grocers, haa just announced and launched a campaign to be nation wide In scope, to make the consuming public fully conscious of the real Importance of the retail grocers. This campaign Is In the form of a nation' wide week to be known as National Retail Orocers week. This first event wit! be staged March 18 to 31, in- elusive, 1936 and will be an annual scheduled week. The retail grocer has a very deft' nlte social, as well aseconomlo value. That social value Ilea In his being a part and parcel of bis community, his own and family citizenship therein, and the fulfillment of his social and civic responsibility to his community as an Independent business man; his . permanency in and his contribution to the prosperity of the community and the enlargement of the oppor tunities It offers to the ever-rising generation but even more than that, It Ilea In hie real attachment to and his pride In bis business as an in tegral part of the community and his attitude which dictates his action to plxe profit secondary to community welfare, rather than mat. ' rhe retail grocer has always been, for the housewives, a very present help in time of need. In the modern movement for . the promotion of hriltb. nutrition Is a vital force. ranking with proper personal hy giene and observance of sanitary laws. and In this, the retail grocers form an Indispensable link between the producer and the consumer. The retail grocer offers Intelligent peisonal service In the promotion of health, and he cares for the public's food needs iwlth great care and con cern. He Is not only a purveyor of food, but he can also give the hu- mnn values which, most of all, the consumer expects from the retailer.
