March 8. The Snow Clan of Klamath Falla nd the Crater Lake Ski club of Fort Klamath have set Saturday, March 33, aa the tentative date of the meet. Sam Jennings, Rogue Snowmen pres ident, has written the two clubs for detailed Information and he expects to have definite facts to place before the local club next Friday. It la con sidered likely that the Sky Liners of Bend also will join the tournament. There will be no regular meeting , of Rogue Snowmen tonight, Mr. Jen ntngs said, but- members will go to Crater Lake Sunday for a dsy of practice. J. Carlisle Crouch, chief ranger and acting superintendent, who spent the past two days at Crater Lake, an nounced this morning that tentative plans have been adopted for freeskl lessons at the mountain resort each Sunday beginning March 8. Cecil Morris. Klamath Falls ace, and L. Howard Crawford, experienced akl artist of the lake winter crew, will give the lessons, Mr. Crouch said. Everyone Is Invited to take advantage of the free lessons, from those who ' find It difficult to stand on a pair of skis to those who require expert coaching on difficult turns, Mr. Crouch stated. ' Mr. Crouch said the park Is now at Its height in regal winter beauty. The lake, he related, la a deep blue picture In a frame of snowy white. He urged residents to take the trip to the park Just to witness the wintry splendor. Mr. Crouch returned from the lake by car last night, coming over the west entrance highway, which he said was in good condition for safe travel. Snow In the park was about 15 feet deep, he stated. The lead changed hands five time during the fray, with never more than two point separating the two teams. Phoenix led at half time, 10-8, but lost that advantage shortly after half time. The two teams meet again tomor row night at Phoenix, the game to tart at 7:30. In case of a Phoentx win, the county race would be tied, and a play-off gams arranged for this city next week, probably on Tuesday on the Junior high floor. PAST ELK RULERS STAGE FUN MEET The Put Exalted Ruler's night at the Medford Elks club last night was pronounced one of the best at tended and most entertaining ses sions In months, after the past rulers had put on a program of fun that included a kangaroo court during the regular lodge session, a big roast beef feed, and entertainment by a CCC orchestra and professional en tertainer. Captain Miller's orchestra from Camp South Fork entertained with western and hill-billy numbers, and accompanied Al Lyons, gear box tenor and rubber legged eccentric dancer during the entertainment. O. O. Aienderfer and Jerry Jerome were roundly congratulated on their ability to produce an evening of fun. and the other committee heads were applauded. Including J, F. (AP) A dozen Portland policemen volun teered today to give blood transfu sions to aid Lou Ann Markle. 10- year-old Anchorage. Alaska girl. In her battle against bone infection In her leg. Five of the officers were selected as having blood of the type required to match hers. She was rushed here by boat and train for treatment at the Shrine hospital for crippled children after her ice skate wound Injury developed Infection and failed to respond to two operations. IN NEW INDUSTRY A new Industry Is In the making for southern Oregon. J. A. Youngs, of Ashland, la Just completing na chines for the manufacture of floor mate and runners for which he uses as raw material used automobile tlree. The mats are said by Youngs to be superior to the usual type. In t!:at they are loosely woven, so that dirt will sift through to the floor, rather than becoming Imbedded In the mat; that they will wear for from eight to ten years: and that his pro duct Is springy and resilient, making It a boon to those whose work makes standing or walking all day neces sary. Youngs' machines are home-manufactured and electrically operated, one set employing seven persons. Weaving Is done by hand, but all other work connected with the manufacture Is machine operated. The principle feature of the enter prise, according to Youngs, is that old tires which are now discarded can be converted into useful articles. He plnns to operate on a email scale scile from now until next fall, when he will establish a permanent and enlarged plant in Medford. which he feels to be the most prominent busi ness center In southern Orcgop, he said. Youngs has been a resident of the Rogue River valley for the past twelve years, having resided In Med ford and Ashland and other valley points.
