Graham Supercharger proved Itn remarkable economy, virtues by cap turing the Sweepstakes Event In the OUmore-Los Angeles-Yosemlte Econ omy run which had thirty of Amer ica's fine cars as entrants, according to official records made public here by Lawrence Pennington, head of Pennington's Battery Service and Gaiage, Graham dealers In this ter ritory. With a ton mile per gallon ave.age of 55.39 to lead the field of contest ants, the Graham Supercharger, carrying a full load of five passengers. used, 13.3 gallons of gasoline on the 353 mile trip from the Southern Cal ifornia starting point to the terminal goal In the valley. An average of 26 68 miles per gallon was attained by the Supercharger. Graham Crusader, competing with popular low-priced cars, won first place In Class 3A. The value of the Supercharger has long been known to engineers. Airplane engines, racing cars and speed motor boats have been equip ped with Superchargers for the past seven years. Application of the supercharging principal Into stock automobiles has been pioneered by Graham. Cars of this manufacture hnve used It for three years. "The conception has existed in some circles that supercharging methods encouraged greater use of gasoline." according to Herbert D Bell, Graham distributor. "And the Gllmore-Los Angeles -Yosemlte Econ omy run should once and for all dis pel this misconception. "The Graham Supercharger." Bell declared, "forces a thoroughly atom ized uniform mixture into each cylin der under pressure which completely fills each cylinder and consequently produces more power when com pressed and exploded. "In the case of Graham, the super charger actually Increases the engine power 33 per cent. Without the super charger the horsepower rating la 85; with the supercharger It la 113!" Bell gives due credit to Gilmore gasoline for Graham's splendid vic tories and lauds the courage of Earl Gilmore In sponsoring the even, which brought thirty of America's fine cars Into competition under equal conditions. General Launches 1936 Advertising Drive in Papers Once again placing leading news papers among Its major medium of advertising, and assigning an Import ant place on the list to the Medford Mall Tribune. Oeneral ePtroleum cor poration has Just Inaugurated Its 1936 advertising campaign with the state ment that newspaper space will be used quite regularly and consistently throughout the year. Such Is the In formation given out by T. M. Hlgglna. district manager for the firm, who says: Based on statistics which have Just been compiled. X am informed that 1930 recorded mora progress for General Petroleum corporation than many of the years In which It has been engaged in business throughout far western states. Admitting, of course, that the company waa de pendent on business conditions In general, plus quality and acceptance of its products and the personnel which makes up the corporation, a fair share of Its progress la attributed to consistent and successful newspa per adve- Ung. "Therefore, it la but logical that the Mail Tribune and other leading newspapers would be selected to carry the company's 1036 message to the motoring public. The campaign start ed with use of moderate sized space in January to grow slightly larger and more frequent In February. The schedule provides for more dominat ing space in March and other months of the year, when the touring season Is on in earnest. "General ePtroleum la grateful for a ftubfttantlal Increase during the past year lu tha volume of Its gasoline, oil and greases dispensed to the mo toring publlo through thousands of service stations. It Is pertinent that the largest Increases In volume were recorded tn Mobllgas and Moblloll, the two products exclusively featured In newspaper advertising space many times throughout the year. Thla In Itself la a tribute to the pulling power of newspsper space, when one considers the company market doe ens of other products.
