Our friend frankly stated that he thought the steers too good for local use that we could get top prices by shipping and then buy cheaper cattle for out markets. "They are worth 80 a pound on foot in San Franoisoo," he said, "and you are suckers if you don't ship them." When we told him they were not for sale except through our own markets, his answer was: "You're crazier than I thought you were." . He may be right but we don't think so First of all, we didn't buy the steers for speculation, but instead to be sure of the kind of beef we have con sistently promised to furnish. We next arranged with Nealon to scientifically feed them so as to in sure a steady supply of good beef by Jan. 1st. If you don't think John has done a good job, stop and look at the cattle should you pass the Neal on Ranch. Our friend was right in one respect No finer steers could be found any where and they would bring top price in any market. The steers will be sold through our own markets in fact we are selling them now. No finer beef was ever sold at any price and we doubt very much if equal quality was ever sold at our popular prices.
