Members are requested to bring with them a thimble, needle and thread. Wednesday Study Club "The Motives and Results of the Crusades" was the subject of a paper rend by Mrs. N. T. Hodgea at the Wednesday Study club's meeting on December 18. With pictures illustrat ing the subject and a map showing the geographical boundaries of that time and the different routes taken by the crusaders. Mrs. Hodges pre sented a comprehensive view of po litical and social life during the Mid dle Ages. The underlying motives of these expeditions to the HOiy uina and their lasting Influence mads a fascinating story. Harold Lamas' "Iron Men and Saints" and "The Middle Agca" by Monroo were used for reference. Mrs. Laura West's talk on "Modern Palestine" was an enlightening review of t-he political status of Palestine at the present time, the problems en countered in the effort to establish harmony among peoples of such dif ferent typos and ideals and the com mercial and economic conditions. Mrs. West's remarks were made espe cially Interesting by her personal ex perience of a visit to Palestine a few yeara ago. To atudents of this sub ject, "In the Steps of the Master," by H. V. Morton was recommended. The prealdent, Mrs. B. O. Harding, presided at the meeting, which Is the last one of the current year. The next meotlng is scheduled for Janu ary IS. Chrlstmaa parties, and caroling. Olrls of Troop 3 are busy this week rehearsing Chrlstmsa carols. Next Monday they will go to sing carois at the Sacred Heart hospital, singing seven of their more familiar songs, which they hope wilt be enjoyed. They are also preparing a whole Christmas dinner for a needy family. Troop 4 Is giving a party at Scout headquart 1 1 Saturday afternoon for a group of 20 children. Troop 6 la preparing Christmas bas kets for distribution and Troop 7 hae arranged to go caroling. Troop 5. at its last meeting, made gift boxes by covering old boxes with gay colored paper. A new troop made lta appearance Thursday afternoon when eight girls of the west aide were Invested with their Scout pins. The Investiture ceremony was impressively given with Mra. Edward Leach, the new captain, presenting the pins. Mlas Jeanette Gore will be their new lieutenant. This troop will bo oalled Troop 0 and will meet at the West Side school house. Weatherford of Al bany, atats regent of Oregon Society, Daughters of the American Revolu tion, announces that the pilgrimage la creating great Interest In high schools where the plan has been submitted by the local chapter re gents. The winner will be chosen on excellence In the highest qualities of good citizenship and not upon popularity, it being understood that the girl is expected to make pass ing grades In all studies. Mra. Wea thcrlord believes that the plan will create on interest In ths students striving to measure up to the fine qualities of real American citizen ship. The student body shall select by highest vote three girls, and the faculty shall select one of the three aa best representing all require' mcnts and certify name to the state superlntendtnt of public Instruction through the principal or superintend dent. Final selection of the winner shall bs made by lot under ths super vision of the stats superintendent at a ceremony in which a committee of D. A. R. members and any other nersons especially desired by the state superintendent and ths stats regent, shall partlclpata.
