Wednesday
Study Club
"The Motives and Results of the
Crusades" was the subject of a paper
rend by Mrs. N. T. Hodgea at the
Wednesday Study club's meeting on
December 18. With pictures illustrat
ing the subject and a map showing
the geographical boundaries of that
time and the different routes taken
by the crusaders. Mrs. Hodges pre
sented a comprehensive view of po
litical and social life during the Mid
dle Ages. The underlying motives of
these expeditions to the HOiy uina
and their lasting Influence mads a
fascinating story. Harold Lamas'
"Iron Men and Saints" and "The
Middle Agca" by Monroo were used
for reference.
Mrs. Laura West's talk on "Modern
Palestine" was an enlightening review
of t-he political status of Palestine at
the present time, the problems en
countered in the effort to establish
harmony among peoples of such dif
ferent typos and ideals and the com
mercial and economic conditions.
Mrs. West's remarks were made espe
cially Interesting by her personal ex
perience of a visit to Palestine a few
yeara ago. To atudents of this sub
ject, "In the Steps of the Master," by
H. V. Morton was recommended.
The prealdent, Mrs. B. O. Harding,
presided at the meeting, which Is the
last one of the current year. The
next meotlng is scheduled for Janu
ary IS.
Mrs. Louis Brown was a guest of
the club.
