Boxed pears and applea this year involved an outlay of 24O.0O0 to MMl.ooo ,or packing house labor, 80, 000 to 00.OO0 for picking labor and 80.0OO to (00.000 hauling coats, or a total of 1400.000 to M30.00 for those three Items, Mr. Lemmon aald. McNary wired chamber or commerce officials here that the public works administration had ap proved additional projects for Salem totaling a third of a million dollars. The projects Included a grant ol 206,2P2 for a central heating plant, and $ 114.873 for a central telephone and radio service for state build ings. The radio would he designed for state police use. Both project had been sought by the state. MOTHER SENT 6000 NOTES SINCE 1919 WILMINGTON. O. (UP) Sixteen years ago. when John Wilson left his home here for California, he told his mother. Mrs. Carey A. Wilson, that he'd "write often." Today. Mrs, Wilson, now 80, can look through her cherished collection of nearly six thousand postcards and see that he has kept his promise. Every day that John has been away from his parents he has written a postcard. He Is 48 now. The flow of mall was stopped only at short intervals when he has returned for a visit or when Mr. and Mrs. Wilson have visited their son in the west. Oanschaw, unable to atand the taste, reneged, but his wife was dead. He wss sentenced to 35 years on a murder charge. Today In the state penitentiary.
