BOY FACES PERIL IN SHOOTING CAT ' ATTACKING DEER Maiden LeRoy, 13-year-old son of Mrs. Jack Crump of Forest creek, was receiving the congratulations of his friends today for his calm exploit in the face of danger. But all the youngster was thinking about was what hi would get for Christmas with the bounty he is to collect from tne county for his daring. With his trusty dog Maiden went out hunting for rabbits Sunday, armed with a .10 gauge shotgun loaded with light shot. He wasn't having much luck but he kept walk lng until he was high on a ridge soma distance from his home. Presently he saw a deer, a fine doe but Maiden was too much of a sportsman to disturb tha animal as she grazed slowly, unconcerned by the nearness of the hunter. The dog. however, began to make a fuss and Maiden was surprised, for his companion of tha woods haa never before attempted to harass a neer. Th boy sensed something wab wrong and presently he saw what It was. It was a big lynx oat. stealthily creeping toward tho doe. Taken by surprise the boy did not at first know what to do. If he retreatea, the bob eat would probably gut the deer And If he fired, with only light shot In his shells, he might Injure the cat Just enough to enrage It for an at tack upon him. Maiden decided to take a chance at vtng tho deer. He fired at the cat but missed and his worst fears were almost realised, for the snarling nnl mal started to attack. The boy stood his ground, however, anc fired again, at closer range. The eat gave a leap Into the air and came down with a thud, dead. Meantime the doe. getting a pllmpss of tha cat, darted off at full speed and aoon was out of danger. Maiden packed the oat to his home, whert It was Bkliincd. Now the pelt, described as unusually handsome, will adorn his bedroom. That Is, It will after he collects the bounty of $9. With that sum Maldtn will be able to fill a very large stocking at Christmas. , SEEK LORD'S FOR PEACE OF SOULS S PLEA At the Church of tha Nar,aren on Sundr.y night, Fred M. Weatherfortl, spoke on "Getting God's Good Way," Drawing his text from Jer. 0:18, "Thus salth the Lord, stand ye In the way, and see, and oak for the old paths, where 1b the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your soul ..." "God's program has always been forwarded by a chosen prophet,' said the pastor. "Jeremiah was perhaps the most attacked prophet of his day. because he was plain-spoken in re buking evid doers. "The Christian religion Is th good way. Cults of many descriptions have appeared on the religious horizon of more or lean recent orifHn. but only the religion of Jesus Christ hu beeu found to reach and cure tha sin malady In the human heart. 1 Co.'.; 3: 11 states, 'Other foundations no man lay than that Is laid, which I Jesus Christ.' Again we rend In Acta 4: 13 'Neither Is there salvation In any other; for there Is none otner name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved'.
