One car of apples, tli first of the season for export, was moved to San Francisco. Pear shipments to date total 1317 oars. This comprises 723 cars of packed pears and 005 cars of cannery pears. There were no cannery ship ments Sunday. Apple car shipments total three cars so far. Early varieties of apples art now being picked, but the main harvesting la not expected to start much before October 1. Harvesting of the Cornice pears Is underway this week and Is expected to be completed by early next week. D'AnJous are also being picked now. A short lull la expected, before the picking of Winter Nells starts. Peak of the tomato crop handling ' , Is due to be reached thla week, with between 4000 and 4S00 lugs reaching ; the Bagley cannery at Ashland dally. Friday 36,000 lug boxes of tomatoes were delivered, and fll.700 cans turned out. According to William A. Gates, the tomato crop this year Is the best in soveral years In quality and quantity. JESSE PHILLIPS Jws Phillips, a resident of the Bhady Core district, passed away at his home there Wednesday morning, after a lliurerlrgj illness. He was born In Republic county. Kansas. In 189 and came to Oregon with his parents In IBM. and resided, most of the time In Jackson county. His wife. Esther Phillips, preceded him In death In 1931. He leaves to mourn his depsrture. one daughter and three sons. Uelphla and Harry of Portland. Edwin and Lester of Shady Cove; four brothers. Albert of Lewlston. tdsho. Charles or Belllngham, Wash., Oeorge of Eagle Point, and Levi Phillips of Portland.
