RADIO SHOW SECTION Tribun RADIO SHOW SECTION DFORD Thirtieth Year BEDFORD, OREGON, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, MXu No. 147, Newest Radio Creations Will Be Presented at Show Opening Thursday Me ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAM SLATED FOR EACH NIGHT Amateur Vocalists and In strumentalists of South ern Oregon Will Vie for Prizes Start at 7:30 Stratosphere Shown at Show Advance registrations for the ama teur entertainers contest to be con ducted as a portion of the enter tainment program of the fall and winter radio show, indicate one or the most successful events of this kind ever held in Medford, The fall radio show is being sponsored by the radio dealers of Medford, and will be open to the public Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, in the Sparta building at Main and Riverside, Doors open each evening at 7:30, with the entertainment pro gram consuming the first hour ol time. The committee in charge of the amateur hour contest, has announced the following rules: All amateurs in southern Oregon are eligible. There are two divisions: vocal and instrumental. Each con testant Is to prepare two solo num bers. Each is allowed one person for accompaniment. Prizes are the same in both groups and are cash, $15 for first, $10 for second and ?5 for third. Awards will be made follow ing announcement of the Judges de cision Saturday evening. Thursday and Friday nights are for elimina tion, Saturday is for the finals. Amateurs desiring to enter this opportunity-contest should call In person at KMED, or write to the broadcasting station. Entrants who register by mail should report at the KMED studios Friday evening at 7:00 o'clock. Don Huckabee, popular local actor and musician, will be In the KMED studios each day this week from 3 to 4 o'clock in the afternoons, and from 7 to 8 o'clock in the evenings to assist applicants m every way possible. RADIO COMPANIES PLANNING LAVISH SELLING CAMPAIGN Greatest Radio Program Ever Undertaken Will Be Feature Public to Be Told of Set Improvements One of the most intensive and far-' reaching advertising and sales pro motion campaigns ever undertaken in the radio receiver field is about to be launched by the various radio manu facturing companies. A huge radio program, details of which are being zealously guarded 1b in preparation. Company officials will commit themselves only to the ex tent that it is the biggest thing of its kind ever undertaken and that it contains many Innovations. Every tool of the advertiser wiii be used on a lavish scale to introduce the new far-reaching improvements in radio receivers. The mast spectacular of several revolutionary advances is the "Magic Eye" which will be featured by the RCA Victor Company; bearing a startling resemblance to the hu man eye and located in the control board Just above the dial in the new sets, the Magic Eye Is a visual tun ing device declared more accurate than the human ear and actually permitting silent tuning, since the volume need not be turned up until the receiver ts accurately tuned for the purest possible reception. Production scheduies have been in creased 100 per cent over that of last year, New machinery has been in stalled to take care of the changes: some plants are running 24 lirar shifts to meet the demand for radio recsivers with the new metal tubes. Twenty-two leading manufacturers will use the new tubs in their re ceivers this winter. Wholesalers at the national convention in Atlantic City made commitments doubling those of last year, both In units and In dol- ; iars, it is reported. This shadow narrows down to & thin line as sta tions are tuned in and indicates per fect tuning when the shadow is nar rowest. The addition of an extra tube In the new receivers is claimed to In crease sensitivity five times and an automatic sensitivity booster will multiply sensitivity five times again. The new seaiedln-steel tubes are heralded as the greatest tube advance la 28 years and the most revolution ary advance in radio since the Intro duction of electric operated radio tubes.
