Fruit and cereal are considered essenM, and a combination of the two foods ifc delicious. The peach aeaaon la now at its prime and fresh sliced peaches served en shredded wheat biscuits make a fine breakfast dish. The wheat bis cuits may be rved Just as they come tm the package; they may be moist ened with hot water before serving, or they iay be moistened, then fried in butter. The addition of plenty of sliced peaches and sugar and cream Is good with any one of these meth ods. French toast Is a fine second course for a hearty breakfast, end. incident ally . it is an Ideal way to take care of stale bread. Here are the recipe and directions for making It: French TnnM. or 9 slices of brea . Salt 1 4 cups milk. Beat the iz.7s. arid the milk and salt. Dip slices of bread into the mixture and saute In a lit$? hot fat until a delicate brown on both sides. Srve hot with Jam or syrup. Occasionally everyone, likes a new kind of svrup to be usetf on pancakes. wiffiea or French toast, and here Is a recipe for homemade caramel syrup which we consider delicious. The only caution in makln? it Is to see that the sugar does not become too brown when It is caramelized, as this would give the syrup a dark color aid a strong, bitter flavor. The addition of cream of tartar prevent crystal lizing and permit a much thicker Aym than would otherwise be pos sible. Caramel S.irup. (For hot. cakes or waffles.) 1 cup sugar, cammellzcd 1 cup war 1 cup sugar Vi teaspoon cream of trtn Melt one cup of sugar and stir It until It is a light golden brown. Do not ovcrbrown it, aa this will give the ayrup a bitter flavor. Add one cup of waur and cook until the cara mel dissolves. Add the second cup of sugar and the cream of tartar snd cook till this auerfr. too. has dis solved. Measure the mixture and add enough water to malv a total vol ume of 1 i cups of syrup. )ore water may be added if thinner syrup la desired, but this Is a thlckne. comparable to many of the commr clal cane and maple mlxt-.vres. 0!
