Wednesday la the alley off of First street, back of the Beaver building, Mrs. Jessie Ekwall. 45, 30 North Second street, was held in the city Jail after she admitted, according to police, break ing Into the Bohemian club beer parlor and OH arm's grocery store earlier In the night and taking a liberal amount of merchandise from both establishments. A burlap sack of assorted gro ceries and meats, and two cartons containing 17 bottles of beer and fruit mixers were found at Mra. Ekwall's residence by city police. The sack contained candy, cookies, smoked meat, cigarettes, gum, and bottled and canned goods. The Bohemian club was entered through the rear door, the window of which was broken out with an axe. A screen on a rear window at O'Harra's store as broken and the unlocked window was raised to allow entrance. Police were notified of the rob beries when the crash of the window In the Bohemian club was heard la a nearby all-night cafe. Mrs. Ekwall, whose husband, E. A. Ekwall, is em ployed at Hilt, Calif., was appre hended shortly afterwards. Mr. and Mrs. Ekwall were both la the city Jail on the night of Febru ary 9, 1934. on charges of drunk and disorderly conduct, police rec ords reveal. Mrs. Ekwall confessed to police Wednesday that she had served a six months sentence in Klamath Falls about 10 years ago as an accomplice in the robbery ox 180 from a Klamath man. By ASHLAND. Work ing three shifts of men and equip ment for a total of 15 hours a day. from 4 a. m. until 8:30 p.m., the Berke Bros, will finish their grading Job on the new Siskiyou route by the specified time of September 1. It was estimated today. The big and powerful steam shovel has been gnawing away at the aide of the mountain for weeks In an effort to complete the last out on the Job, and the four-tenths of a mile In the Berke contract la beginning to look like a road. A few people from this area have found their way to the new road, located In the heart of the moun tains above the Nell creek district, and all agree that mountain ma'gto is In progress. A uniform grade throughout the entire route Is being built, which. will enable drivers to traverse the highway at regular speed. Lack of abrupt curves and the necessity of constantly watching the road wlU give the opportunity of en.oylng un surpassed mountain scenery. Bids on the next contracts will b called after September 1, and the Perke Bros, have Indicated their in tention of building more' of the road.
