(AP) Emll Fucha. colorful president of the Boa- ton Braves for the pa.it 10 years, to silent and tactful Bill MrKechnle, to silent snd tactful bill MrKechnle, hla manager since 1030. Kuchi bad until today to regain control of the club by obtaining OfiOO shares of stock from Charles p. Adams, his vice-president. He an nounced yesterday that he was un able to do so and bowed to Adam' "pay up or get out by August 1 ultimatum. The awltch that made MrKechnle temporary president is an Ironical one. rive month ago, when Fuchs coaxed Baba Ruth to Boston, Mc Kechnle, who works under a verbal agreement, was destined to be ousted by the famous home-run aluftger. who made no secret of his mana gerial ambitions. Fuchs hoped that the Babe's pres ence would solve his financial prob lems, but they were Ill-mated. The blow-off came several weeks ago when they exchanged hard names and Hutu retired. McKechnle's pro tern promotion, however, probably will be of short duration. He will finish the season as manager. Next year, if Adams falla to find a purchaser, Bob Qviinn, who aold the Red Box to Tom Vawkey, probably will be lured from Brook lyn to take over the genentl mana gership of the Tribesmen. MrKechnle will remain under him as team manager. Which has the better pair of legs. Sad Sam Let hers, lanky Texaa giant, or his,;, slender contemporary from the Lone Star state, IjCS Wolfe? The question will be threshed out in the headline match at the Armory tonight. There U a chance thst the match will end in a heap of twisted pedal extremities with no one particularly on top, but In any event the fans will nave seen one of the most spectacular sessions of bone twist ing billed here this season, accord ing to the dope-bucket. The arena will take on the aspects of a battle ground for the other half of the double main event, when Johnny Boos, Indiana bad-man, tan gles for sn hour or two out of three socka-ln-the-Jw with Al Stecher, big-time Canadian quirk and smirk artist. To get the fans properly perched on the edges of their chairs, and Incidentally Promoter Lillard has in stalled 100 new seats this week in anticipation of a record crowd, a battle of speed will be staged in the opener when Curly Woods, clever leg-hold artist of the middleweight class, meets Floyd Wolfgang. Tills bout ts a natural, as Is the mam event, because Woods learned how to wrestle here and Is considered a local product. He recently held the const middleweight belt, which is no surprise to lans who ssw him going full blast last week sgalnst Roland Warren. Lethers will have a chance to night to make good part of a boast1 that he has returned to Medford to I flatten every wrestler in the neigh borhood. He started out last Thurs day by using a shove-over-backward hold to defeat Al Stecher. The referee will be Fireman Ray Friable. roguOTay T PORTLAND, Aug. 1. fp) So wrought up over h'a defeat by Hns Stelnke, 350-pound German wrestler laat nlht. Ed (Strangler) Lewis, tried to pick a fight with Stelnke. argued with Referee Verne Harring ton, and even offered to stae a free-for-all with the ringalders He was finally subdued. Three thousand enthusiastic fsns aw something unuausl for this sec tion of the country when, after tak ing the first fall with his famous hesdlock In 20:3. Lewis fell victim to the powerful Oermsna body slama in 3:M and 6:31. respectively. Pat O'Shocker put on some fist ring work to take the nod over An gela Cestoldl In three rounds. Pat Fraley defeated Jon Hubka snd .Joe Oard tnler and "Silent" Banks went three rounds to a draw. The Medford Rogues will play the Coquille Loggers at Coqullle Sunday In an effort to defeat for the sec ond straight time the fast-breaking team from the coast. In 23 games this yenr. Coqullle has dropped only one start beside the one taken by Medford the House of David. The Coqullle fracna Is only one ot severs! gnmea signed hy the Rogues for the latter end of the season. During the entire first part of the lea true circuit the locals were handi capped by the fact that they had no pitcher. They finally procured a pitcher In the form of Bauman, and then their infield started to disintegrate Now they have a fine team assem bled and no one upon whom to vent their spleen for early season defeats. Virgil Swanson will start with the Rogues. In the outfield. (By Associated Press.) New York baseball fans may talk of a five-cent world series, but In Chicago there Is a strong feeling that It will be a three-for-a-quarter affair with the elevated and not the sub way prcvldlng the chief mode of transportation. Once, in 1006. the Sox and the Cubs met to decide baseball suprem acy with Fielder Jones leading the American leaguers to a 42 to 2 trl umph In games over the National league team, managed by Fronk Chance. Now they have hopes agsln with the Cubs only a half-game back of the pace-setting New York Giants in the National league and the White Sox only a half game out of second place and three and one-hslf games to the rear of the Detroit Tigers in the Junior circuit. The Cuba had a golden opportun ity yesterday when the Giants lost to the Phililea, but the best they could do was a split In a double- header with the Pittsburgh Pirates, They won the opener 4 to 2, with Roy Henshaw outpltchtng Cy Blan ton before giving way to pinch hit ter in 'the eighth. They carried the nightcap to 11 innings before losing 6 to 6. The defeat broke the Chlcagoans winning streak at 11 games and left them with a record of 24 victories In 28 games played since July 6. The Giants were the victims of home-runa aa the Phillies won 5 to 3 to take the series, two games to one. John Moore snd Dolph Camllli piked out one of Carl Hubbell's curves and hit successive homers in the second. Moore got another off Leon Chagnon in the ninth. Curt Davis allowed 12 hlta. but Terry's double ws the only extra base blow. The White Sox closed in on the Yankees, whose game with the Ath letics was rained out. by coming from behind to beat the Cleveland Indians 6 to 4. Mel Harder hit two homers for the tribe but weakened in the eighth a the Sox sent four runs serosa the plate. T LOS ANGELES, Aug. 1. fp) With 15 victories to his credit against two losses. Sam Gibson, Ssn Francisco righthander, today remained the leading hurler In the Coaat league. Glenn Gabler. Angel Hurler, with 11 wins and two defeats, and Wyn Bal lon, mound mate of Gibson, with 14 wins and four loses, ranked second and third, respectively. In averages.
