Simpson formed a Methodist class and services were held for some time in the original Washington school building. In 1887 arrangements were made with the Presbyterians whereby the Methodists might have the use of their church building once a month. In 1888 Howard's Hall, located where the First National Bank now stands. was rented. In 1889 Mr. D. T. Lawton and Mr. Clark Taylor donated the two lota on the corner of Bartlett and Fourth streets and a fine little church build ing was erected. But soon It was not sufficient and another addi tion was placed on the south to ac commodate the growing Sunday school. Then tt was not long until it became necessary to put up a tent and to use nearby residences for some of the classes. Finally, in 1923 a new site was purchased on West Main and Laurel streets ind a new church 8 building erected at a cost of 100. 000. The new building was c o m p 1 eted and dedicated In 1924.
