Dawes, who ar rived here with his family July I to assume the pastorate of the First Baptist church, will preach his first sermon at the local edifice this morning at 11 a.m. There will be special music. There will be no evening sermon as the union meet ings for the summer months start today. However, the B. Y. P. U. group will meet at 7 p.m. The first of the union services will be held at the Episcopal church, with Rev. Bartlam preaching the sermon at 8 p. m. Union meeting Sunday. McMillln, prominent Rdso burg man, has leased the Cascade Gorge resort on the Crater Lake highway, and now has it in readiness lor the public. All of the cabins have been completely renovated, and a stock of groceries and short orders are now available at the store. Cascade Gorge is considered one of the beauty spots between this city and Crater lake, although its charm Is too little known. Action of the legislature In taking three quarters of a million dollirs from the state Industrial accident commission fund to construct a st.uc office building at Salem was soundly condemned and return of the funds for direct allocation to labor de manded in one of the resolutions adopted late Friday. I woa also resol ved to demand "that a more Just and equitable amount of money be paid to the In jured men of the state of Oregon, and that this amount be Increased in proportion to the Increased cost of living since 1913," when the com pensation law was adopted. Other resolutions: (1) opposed "the so-called system of company doctors or contract doctors'and urged "that compulsory state compensation be adopted." (2) Urged support of the junior college school district bill passed by the 1935 legislature and vetoed by the governor. CITY SANITARY SERVICE INC wwrvan ff.kd stork BOY SCOUTS ENJOY THREE-DAY HIKES TO The Boy Scouts of Camp McLough lln started on their three-day hike Monday morning amid a hurried hunt for camping equipment. Tiiere were three hikes available for the scouts. The first and most difficult was the Lake Harriet trip. Next was the Mount McLoughltn hlko and the third to Four Mile lake. Only second year campers are permitted to go on the Lake Harriet hike. On these vari ous hikes, the scouts carry their bed ding, personal equipment and a por tion of the food. This was the first over-night hike taken by several of the scouts. Sea Scout Bob Haines led the Har riet lake hike group, composed of Scouts Bob Nixon. Bob Walker. Ja-.'k Hamilton. Donald Younger, and Al fred Dodson. After a hard day's hik ing, the scouts reached Harriet lake and were greeted by a large bunch of mosquitoes. Tuesday was spent In hiking to the surrounding pesks They returned Wedneseday, tired and very glad to be back In camp. The Mount McLoughlin party was composed of Scouts Bob Deaver. Her bert Prultt. Alvln Wimer, Don Wimer. Mickey Miller, George Codding, Rich ard Nelson. Jerry Vawter, Douglas Pickell, Stanley Jones. Verne Strayer, Kenneth Lewman, Willis Pratt, Dean Ford. Walter Kreasc, with A. O. Sod erberg, R. W. McConneU and Irwin Doty as leaders, Monday the group hiked to Freye lake, where they mad permanent camp. Early Tuesday morning the party started for the summit of the mountain, which was reached at one o'clock. The trip down will never b forgotten by moat of the fellows, as it consisted of sliding down huge snow field. In thla way it took two minutes to travel what It took two hours to climb. The return trip to home camp was easily made arut everyone was ready to consume an enormous dinner. The Four Mile lake trip wa made by following the diversion canal up to the lake. The scouts taking this, hike were: Douglas Janney. Richard Schuchard, Neil Stone. George Blg ler. Bob Coverstone. Vera Kellenbeck. Robert Bryant and William Taylor. The hike was led by Donald E. Moore and Shtrrell Doty. Camp was made at the lake and the program arranged for the next day. Some of the games were frog racing, running and fish ing. On the return hike Wednesday this group met the Mount McLough lin party. Wednesday evening was spent with a general cam pf ire. each hiking party having a representative giving gen eral talk on their particular hike. It was generally agreed that the hikes were a success.
