Representatives Mott and Ekwall both took exception to the accusa tion of the former Oregon governor that they favored "utility company racketeering" like the "robbery of Oregon Jnvestora by the central pub lic service corporation." 'I am amazed to learn." Pierce said, "that a congressman represent In those Investors can raise his voice in defense of the financial pirates who robbed us." Mott, a former Oregon corporation commissioner, denied the charge by Pierce he had made a speech on the house floor In favor of utility holding company rackets. "As a matter of fact," he said, "my speech was a denunciation of them." "The very rackets which my col league told you we could not pro hibit by state law." Mott declared, "are the rackets that we storjped with the law we made In the Oregon legis lature after my colleague ceased to be a member of that body." Ekwall said he voted against the death sentence because of the "mil lions of Investors in this country whose life savings I thought were Imperiled." Gates, chairman of ''the agricultural committee of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. The chamber, during the past few months, has ad vocated the raising of sweet Span ish onions and It Is expected that the crop this year will be three times that of last year. Bermuda Onions offer a new pos sibility in this county and present good possibilities. A. P. Curtrlght, living at Beatl Lane and the Jack son road has put In an experiments! patch from which he expects to raise one and a half tons. Bermuda onions will produce three hundred sacks to the acre and his output has steady been spoken for. Mr. Curtrlght has spent three years In experimenting Bermuda mioni and the pres ent crop has only been in the ground 130 nays. It would appear, according to Mr. Gates, that there Is a good proiit In Bermuda onions and a ready mar ket la available all over the United States. WASHINGTON. July 6.
