(AP) Today the sun set In Fair banks and rose again in half an hour, making it the longest day in any city, anywhere. There wasn't any night, for citi zens of Fairbanks called a holiday stopped nil business, and devoted the 25 hours of daylight to games for the children, races, a baseball game and a potlatch. The ball game started at midnight and without floodlights, either. Some people went to the "summit" in cars to watch the phenomenon of the sun going down and coming right back up almost immediately, and some chose airplanes to view the spectacle. On the streets, they danced and read newspapers. Two dance halls were used because of the gieat crowds celebrating. Miners warmed from the hills to celebrate. Cow bells, horns and other noise makers rattled and clanged for hours. The sun sets at midnight, but that will last only a few weeks. The pro cess Is gradual. Slowly the nights will lengthen. During the 24 hours from midnight Friday to midnight Saturday, however, Fairbanks has Its place In the sun a 24-hour sun. MERCURY AT 127 T ZARAGOZA, Spain. June 72. Pontiac's Springs Offer Comfort and Quiet Operation i Close-fitting steel sprlns covers pro tect Pontiac's graphited springs from dust and water, thus ellminatliiK squeaks and rattles due to improper spring lubrication, fcy this method there Is no danger of ''frozen leaves" which are dvie to rust forming be tween the spring leaves. To further augment quietness and comfort. Pont lac has Insulated the rear spring from the axle nouser with live rubber, and at the front end of the rear spring a rubber bushing les sens any tiro and road noises, On Pontiac's new standard six. "stabilized springing" la used to slve a smooth, balanced drive. To jialn the greatest decree of cofmort and safety from thla method of suspen sion, the chassis and engine of the new standard six have been moved forward five Inches In relation to the wheels, throwing more of the weight on the front wheels, thus assuring a more even distribution of weight. An other factor contributing to greater riding ease Is that much of the stiff ness has been taken out of the front springs. To give greater road steadi ness at all speeds, a satbtllzer bar onnects the two shock absorbers. which means that shocks from severe bumps are borne by both springs and not by one alone. This bar also makes steering easier because It pre vents excessive flexing of the front springs, the wheels holding their true course through heavy gravel or over the roughest roads. A fear Is being felt by local can ning Interests that the eastern mar kets which have In the past absorbed a large percentage of the Medford cherry production will withdraw their orders next year because of an un predictable situation that has arisen here. Last year, the cherry crop was in a great measure destroyed by hard rains, splitting the fruit and render ing it useless. Now this year, to add to the cannerymen'a troubles, the crop Is unusually light. To safeguard their eastern and mlddlcwestern mar kets, the Rogue River Valley Can ning company la making ail effort to obtain all of the Royal Anne and Btng cherries possible thla ypar, and are asking the growers to bring In their cherries Just as soon as they sre ripe for canning. Operation on cher ries will begin this week. Dse Mall Tribune want ads. TO on the Goodrien. $&kr Silver town .al. a M una unum uua n.
