Bt Cvrll Sander 3 i -&r -1 ThU year' Elk good will imbasea dors who are making a national tour which will end at the national con vention axe ueing Chevrolet automo biles. The two cars which have visited Med ford are a Chevrolet standard, phaeton, and a Chevrolet master dc luxe aedan. These car will travel more than 30.000 miles between May 36 and July 15. which means that b; the time the tour Ja over these cars will have been through a very severe test. In other words this tour shoulJ go a. long way in proving the relia bility and rurgedness of the 1935 ' Chevrolet. The main reasons given for choosing Chevrolets this year wero for their "reliability. rua?edness. an all-round performance." These "good-will" earn are aUo quipped with the new Goodrich Safety SilvertowVi tlr. As we under stand It, these Urea are made with feature which Is exclusive with Good rich and which also supposedly helos to eliminate the chance of flat tlrea This feature la known as the Llfe Saver Golden Ply. This ply resists th heat which 1 generated In a tire When a car la traveling at hlh speed, and according bo authorities this la one of the chief causes of blowouts. Tt was little doubt because of this fact that these tires were chosen to be used on this good will lour bs oauae the oars will be consistently maintaining a high speed In order that they may end the tour on schedule. Well, now that thia year's Indian apolis speed clasele Is over we sup pose that many of the drivers wMl Immediately begin to plan and bull 1 Or rebuild cars for next year's ra-t This year Kelly Petillo won the race at an averasre speed of 108.ii40 miles per hour. This la something like twa miles per hour faster than ltst year'c record. Oi course that doesn't sound like very much more than he pre vious record, but when one stops t: think that two miles an hour mor was maintained for five hundred miles, it takes on a different aspect In our opinion what thia country neda is a new race track which would be safe for the apeeds which modern racing oars are ab t hit and maintain. It seems to ua that this Indianapolis race Is becoming, more of a race of skill and chance rather than one of high speed Per-hap-we are wrong, but it appears that thi race track was never built for cars that will race as fast as thoe that are now run on It every year There ts little doubt many are ca pable of 150 and some even arouno 200 miles per hour why not build a speedway which would be fully ci pable of handling speeds like this and which would also remove many of the fatalities which occur every year In the try-outs and In the ac tual race. We believe that tf a track like this was available that, some of the. restrictions now placed on entries to the Indianapolis race might be re moved and the speed record would probably be raised considerably. Gaily striped canvas chairs, painted tables and umbrellas added the proper touch to the summer garden atmos phere. Frances Dnly was chairman of the committee that planned the arrange ments. Mrs. Glenna Mae Early and Mrs. Dolph Phlpps acted as patron esses for the affair. The girls wish to thank the follow, in: Medford flrma for their assist ance with the decorations: Medford Green House, Burke's, Conger's and Perl's.
