Pythian Sisters who gather In tbla city Saturday for the 13th annual convention of district No. 4. pre ilded over by Adelaide Swarte ox this city, district deputy grand chief, will start registering at 1 p. m.. It was announce this morning. At that time the convention will be called to order and the usual con vention work will be exemplified and the questions on law and order answered by the grand officers who will be present. Among theae will be Barbara Graves, grand chief of Pyth ian Sisters of Oregon. During the afternoon session elec tion of officers will be held and In the evening a banquet will be served at 6:30 o'clock at the Lutheran church on Itourttf street, for Pythian Sisters and their husbands. More convention work will be done In the evening, after a program la pre sented, and the conclave will end with dancing and refreshments. Protect Ire AMorlatton Has Monthly Business Meet. Degree of Honor Protective associa tion held a regular monthly busi ness meeting Thursday evening at Eagles' hall. A large class of candi dates were Initiated into the lodge. Interesting talks were given by the delegates at the recent convention of Degree of Honor, held et Portland. The delegates from Medford were Edith Elliott and Mayme Seller, the latter being the honor delegate. After the business meeting the rest of the evening was spent In danc ing. . ; Major and Mrs. Owens Will Be Honored at Tea. Members of Medford CCC district Officers' club will give an informal tea-danos at the Colonial Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The occasion will be In honor of Major and Mrs. George B. Owens, who ar arriving to make their home In Medford. where Major Owens Is to take the place of Major Clare H. Armstrong as commanding officer of the Med ford CCC district. Capt. Glenn J. Culbertson stated that a Travelair observation plane, and a Waco recou naisance plane, both seml-lnclosed, two passenger ships, will be used, and the sam nominal fee that lias pre vailed this week will be charged. Evangelist Coming To Phoenix Church Rev. Phillips of Eugene will begin a series of evangelistic meetings on Sunday at the First Christian church In Phoenix. A report was received from West- port this morning that the ISO em ployes oi me wesiporb mmofi com pany had quit, but company officials denied this. They said a breakdown In equipment had compelled closing over the week-end but that the mill would resume operations Monday. Alarmed by the spread of the mill workers' strike. Chief of Police Harry Ntles today added 30 more men to the police strike detail and an nounced all members of the depart ment. will be put on a 13-hour shift with no days off. The Oregon state police announced that four of their oars each carrying two men, will start patrol work on a 13-hour shift tonight. The city ac cepted the offer of the Multnomah county sheriff to authorize three county prowl cars to strike duty 34 hours a day. The city police strike detail n numbers 90 men. Doubt was expressed In several quarters whether the Brad wood and the West port Lumber company mills will open for work Monday.
