Ruhl, re turned on the BhaKta Saturday morn ing after many delightful days spent at sea. on the Islands and in ixjwer California. The spring sunshine found there and the beautiful desert flowers at Palm Borings even sur passed the attractiveness of the Island on many days, miss nuni found, because of the atorma and floods that were encountered. ' Miss Ruhl accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Carpenter on the voy age, but remnlned In California after the latter returned to Medford. At Pasadena she visited Miss Julia Mc- Williams, who attended school with Miss Ruhl and Is acquainted with many In Medford, having been cuest at the Ruhl home. ' Miss Ruhl then accompanied her father, who had gone to Ban Fran cisco to meet the boat, and her grand father, A. 8. Ruhl, to Agua Callente for a week end of golf and a visit U the Csslno. Then she and her father visited Palm Bprlngs. where It waa found that the desert flowers were In bloom. At Oahu. Mls Ruhl and the Car penters were gueste at the Haleku lanl hotel at Walklkl Beach. Four weeks were spent there and It wsa during this time that the serious floods struck the Islands, adding no little excitement to the visit. They motored around the Island before re turning to San Francisco. ' Robert W. Ruhl la In that city and la expected to return the first of the week. F. Holbrook, 17 Almond street, have celebrated the sixty-first anniversary of their marriage. On March 33, 1874. the well known local couple, took vows In Sparta. N. C. Today, at the ages of 89 and 79, Mr. and Mrs. Holbrook welcome the new season, each enjoying good health and congratulations from their nine living sons and daughters. They have been residents of Oregon for 3S years and have friends thruout the valley, who also extend them good wlsnes. He Is tracing development of the pear by means of X-ray pictures from the smallest bud formation through to the ripened fruit. The time for pick ing In the future may possibly be determined by X-rny pictures rather than by methods now In use, Dr. Mof fntt said.
