With the cry "Increase the Deficit" the Jackson county chamber of com merce swung Into action today on & now flv-yr program to dredge Bear creek to the sea. so that battle veawla of the United StaM fleet can proceed up as far aa Medford to participate In Armlxtlce Day pro grama here in the future. The new program, one of the most comprehensive to be undertaken In the history of the chamber, li ex pected to start a boom In thla city, and launch one of the greatest ex pansions In the history of the Pa cific coast. "For many years," said A. H. Ban well, manager of the chamber, "It ha been a public disgrace that this elty has had no battleships upon which to sprinkle flowers from the Bear creek briage." Many letters from citl7ns, prominent and otherwise, gave rtae to the great project, when the public gave Indication that It would no longer tolerate the shame- , fui situation. "Mwlford has been In I the back seat long enough," said j W. S. Bolger. former president of j the chamber, thumping the table- Another project of tremendous lm- porta nee to this community to be launched will be the construction of a tram-way, starting at the rim of Crater Ike, clearing the coast range, and swooping down upon the coast at a point near Gold Beach, where a huge amuaement park la to be built at public expense. The park, which will be the largest of lta kind tn the world, has been tentatively named New Medford, and contracts for the work will be let In the near future, Is was learned today. New stream-lined cars will be built by the Boeing airplane factory, which has Indicated a desire to aurt a factory here. The cars, which will run on the Crater-lake-to-the- aea tram, will be capable of attain- lri even , greater speeds than those attained by high school students on South Oakdsle, if plans of the com I pany for new models, now In the ; wind-tunnel stage of development, i are completed. j In order to clear the air for the huge caravans of Incoming settlers, work la to begin In the next day or two on blasting off 800 feet from the top of Roxy Ann, which has been condemned aa a hazard to airplanes. "What a day for Medford I" cho rused Banwell and Bolger to the re porter as the latter fled from the scene dlazlly. but carefully avoiding a plump and Inviting looking purne lying on the akidway that serves for a front step to the chamber of fices. Moody was prosecutor In the L. A. Banks murder trial and the Jackson county ballot theft cases. Communications Tnwnwnd Man Pressure. To the Editor: In spite of ridicule and severe criticism perhaps because of It, the Townscnd movement rolls on. It Jiow boasts of a.ftOO.OOO followers! This pre am ire of members Is making a deep Imprcwalon. The shrowd oh- ! server. Maxwell Stewart, says In the ! "Nation": Every congressman for- ! vently prays that the plan may never reach the floor of the house. If It doee. only a brand new Mt ot congreiwtonal spinal columns can prevent Its parwngr." But It will not J reach the floor of this rnngretui. we are told. Apparently, the Towns endern don't think it win m nn the Townnend polltlrsl party Is being I conceived. It birth seems certain. Certain If the movement does not collapse. The hurrah stsce u nait. lta supporters inform. Their clubs ; will he edurnMonal centers for the j cniiesi muov or economic forces and structures. In ahnrt. the basis of the institution will shift from that I tf feeling to understanding! from -the heart to the head. This la fine 1 for lta members. But for the plan as It now stands not "so hot." Why nott Bemuse the history of lnstltu tione that chance their b so radl- I cally split tip into two parts, a right , and a left, conservative and radical. often with a center and other in- 1 between factions, depending largely on the degree of understanding of ' the economics that holds them as In the Jaws of a viae. Then they fight. What Is leftif anything is lert. Is a very dlffrrrnt thing than what It was. Thla hlMory may not repeat Itself In this case, nut It surely will If a certain degree of under- standing of the thing into which it wants to pump life capitalism. Is J reached. So to expert a person with ! a scientific knowledge of the racket r to follow the Intellectually blind M. D . would be as absurd as to ex i pect nice shsrp-edned cubes to come i out of round moulds! But the co Incidental oh feet I ve. vir, the 1200 a month for those shove 60 is possible All thwt Is needed Is a scientific re organlrjttlon of sorirty snd a philos ophy that wilt "click" with it.
