(AP)-'-The nation's first death sen tence for kidnaping waa upheld by the Missouri supreme court today when It denied the appeal of Walter H. McOee and set May 10 as his exe cution day. ' McGee, leader of a gang which kid naped Miss Mary McElroy for $30,000 ransom nearly two years ago, alter nately raged and wept in his Kansas City Jail cell when told of the deci sion. Miss McElroy, brunette, 36-year-old daughter of H. F. McElroy, city man i ager of Kansas City, said she "would I rather not comment at this time, but her sympathy for McGee and his bro- ther, George, serving a life term In j connection with the kidnaping, has been expressed many times. Miss McElroy, kidnaped from her home May 27, 1933, and kept chained In the celler of a house near Shawnee, Kas., for 30 hours until her father paid $30,000 one-half of the amount originally demanded has been ner vous and distraught with worry over the prosecution of her abductors. 10 RELIEF BILL THREATENS DELAY WASHINGTON. Secretary Ickes" objection to an amendment Inserted by conferees on the work relief bill were transmitted directly to the president aboard his yacht in Bahama waters, and threat ened to delay the measure once again. The controverted amendment would require a direct expenditure for labor of $300,000,000 of the $900. 000,000 tentatively allocated for con struction loan and grants to munici palities and states. This would pre vent, some officials said, any loans for municipal light plants and simi lar construction. (AP) A German mother, Frau Charlotte Juenemann, who was so absorbed in night life that three of her children died of hunger and cold, was sentenced today to death by the axe. Experts pronounced her fully responsible for her actions. Police had quoted the 24 year old mother as saying: "I had no time to give the chil dren food and water." (AP) Mrs. Rupertn Estrada Duranzo, reported to be 120 years old and be lieved to be the oldest person in the United States, died here today of pneumonia. She was a full-blooded Indian. Mrs. Hart's recipe follows: 3 fJicfs of Premium bacon, sliced. 2 tablespoonfuls of flour. 1 cupful of milk. 1 No. 2 can of early garden peas. !4 teaspoonful of salt. Dash of pepper. Brown the diced bacon in a skillet or saucepan then add the flour and smooth to a paste. Add the milk and cook, stirring occasionally until a smooth sauce is former. Add the peas.
