The blood-stained trail of George
("Baby Face") Nelson waa traced far
ther by government witnesses here to
day In the federal court trial of nine
persons for harboring the notorious
Dtlllnger ganster In his flight from

Nelson's efforts to find ft hiding
place In San Francisco were told of.
by William Ramsay, department of
Justice agent, who said the fugitive
gangster finally decided the city was
too hot" and fled eastward to his
death In Illinois.
Ramsay was testifying concerning a
purported confession by Anthony
("Soap") Moreno. San Francisco bar
tender and one of the nine defend
ant. Moreno was quoted by the witness
as admitting that he was approached
here last year by Nelson and John
Paul Chase, sentenced to life Impris
onment at Chicago for his part In
the Barrlngton, 111., battle with fed
eral men.
"Nelson and Chase wanted Moreno
to find them a hideout In San Fran
cisco." Ramsay testified, "but he de
murred." The agent said that at an
other meeting Moreno warned the
two gangsters "they were too hot for
the town and suggested they flee

tried to evade arrest by bolting for a

Eugene Stan. 20. who drove his car
to the mldtown hotel where the trap
was laid. Both were charged with vio
lating the Harrison narcotic act after
agents said they had found rinrcotlcs
valued at $28,000 on Price's person
and at his home.

tence for kidnaping waa upheld by
the Missouri supreme court today
when It denied the appeal of Walter
H. McOee and set May 10 as his exe
cution day. '
McGee, leader of a gang which kid
naped Miss Mary McElroy for $30,000
ransom nearly two years ago, alter
nately raged and wept in his Kansas
City Jail cell when told of the deci
sion. Miss McElroy, brunette, 36-year-old
daughter of H. F. McElroy, city man
i ager of Kansas City, said she "would

her sympathy for McGee and his bro-
ther, George, serving a life term In
j connection with the kidnaping, has

Miss McElroy, kidnaped from her

amendment Inserted by conferees on
the work relief bill were transmitted
directly to the president aboard his
yacht in Bahama waters, and threat
ened to delay the measure once
again.
The controverted amendment
would require a direct expenditure
for labor of $300,000,000 of the $900.

struction loan and grants to munici
palities and states. This would pre
vent, some officials said, any loans
for municipal light plants and simi

diaphragm arrived here late today,

here with Alyce Jane McHcnry. 10

lieved to be the oldest person in the
United States, died here today of

3 fJicfs of Premium bacon, sliced.
2 tablespoonfuls of flour.
1 cupful of milk.
1 No. 2 can of early garden peas.
!4 teaspoonful of salt.
Dash of pepper.
Brown the diced bacon in a skillet
or saucepan then add the flour and
smooth to a paste. Add the milk
and cook, stirring occasionally until
a smooth sauce is former. Add the
peas. Including the liquid, season to
taste with salt and pepper and con
tinue stirring until slightly thickened
and sufficiently cooked. Serve on hot
