MEDFORD, OREGON, TUESDAY, MARCH 5, 1935. mWM VIM A FOR ELKS FINALS A new boxing ring, built to pro fessional specifications, will be used at the Elk temple Tnuwlay evening when the finals In the Medford dis trict CCC championships are ataxed. Workmen are busy this week con structing the new ring, which will make It possible for everyone to watch the flghta without difficulty. The district championship flf?hts pro mise to draw a record crowd. Exalted Ruler H. N. Butler. In re minding that the smoker la open to Elks and their friends, stressed the Importance of a large attendance. He said the crowd Thursday night will determine whether or not the Elks will hnve another similar series of CCC smokers, which will probably start In March, with the finals to be staged at the Elks picnic grounds In conjunction with a big feed. Tickets for the finals are on sale at Roxy Ann Confectionary, People's Electric, Jarmin's DniRs, Hlwny Bar ber Shop and Pretlette's cigar store. Every partlclnnt In the smoker has demonstrated his right to enter the final bouts and all are proven crowd pleasers. The special main event of the evening, a four-rounder, will bring together Billy Liner of Indian creek and Wilson of Hilt. Liner has been a consistent winner In the dls- i trlct but the promoters have had difficulty finding an opponent good enough for him. In Wilson they be- J lleve they have a real discovery. Williams, colored flash from Inrflsn I creek, will meet Chief Thomas, In- dlan scrapper of Bradford, In the three-round event. Thomas has not appeared In the early smokers be cause a formidable enough opponent could not be found for him but Wil liams' first round knockout of Champagne on the last card puts him In the "fast company" clasa. Meyerhoffer, the boy from Spring Plat with dynamite In either hand, will keep company with Logan of Car berry In another fight that la expected to keep the crowd In an up roar. Both flghtera use a straight up stnnce and like to mix. Moore of Indian creek, twice a vic tor on earlier cards, will go for three rounds with Max Gordon of Ore gon Caves. DeShlelds of Oak Knoll and Glabb of Humbug, whose slugfcst on an earlier card ended In Olabb's de tent, will meet again ,ln a special rematch. Glabb was knocked out In the exchange of blows but his fol lowers have demanded another chance and the bout has stirred up a lot of "heat" over the csrd. Snider of Applegate and Moreno of Hilt, two good lads with clean records behind them, will mix In the curtain raiser that may well be the best bout on the card. Tickets are selling rapidly, each Elk being per mitted to bring his friends to the show. Wilson Wins Top Honor In Gun Club Tournament At the tmpshoot t the Medford Oun club Sunday.
