Like the others, this new Capra film play has been having a smashing success everywhere It has been shown with holdovers the rule Instead of the execeptlon. The story is a simple one, but, with Csprs'e manner of telling it. A thor oughly entertaining one throughout With thst intangible Capra quality. SCREEN REVIEW By Dirk ApplfRate A thrilling mystery story, "The White Cockatoo." with Ricardo Cor tez and Jean Mulr. with color, sus pense and a perfect setting, played in conjunction with the vaudeville at the Craterlan theater last night. Set in a larpe hotel on the coast of France, the play moves swiftly to Its final denoument with very few flaws.' The love interest centers In Jean Mulr, as a young American girl who Is about to Inherit a million dollars, and Ricardo Cortez, a young Ameri can who spends most of the picture preventing people of various descrip tions from swindling her out of It. The mystery Interest centers in the attempts on Mlsa Mulr's life, and the murders of two of the hotel employ es, and the clever solving of the mur ders by Cortez. Most mystery plays content them selves with a few weird sound ef fects. - and the use of disembodied hands with long finger-nails, clutch lng from behind curtains at the beautiful damsel's throat, and flash es of some guy In a black cape slink ing off through the underbrush. No such amateurish maneuvers In TOMORROW and Friday What Happens I show. 1 1 (TcrnfTi 1 1 i ,A IGHMf fOJ 254 7:00-9:00 ,v UjlAWsd I Klddln 10c When the Police Commissioner's Own Sweetheart Is Ac cused of MURDERl With RALPH BELLAMY Valerie Hobson Irene Ware Positively Ends Tonight George Raft Jean Parker in "LIMEKOUSE BLUES" evasive, fleeting yet paradoxically something definite that brings out the greatness in the players and story alike, "Broadway Bill' 'la a superb successor to "It Happened One Night." Baxter Is the young man married Into a rich family who dominate th Industries of a small town, yet al ways with the desire of "getting away from it all" and going to the race tracks he knows and loves, and finally doing so. which leads to some highly exciting situations. Myrna Loy Is the younger sister of Baxter's wife, snd the only member of the family who really understands him. this one, however, and the fans who enjoy a well txirnrri mystery purred contentedly at this one. Outstanding In the vaudeville was a bicycle riding act that would be a credit to blg-tlme circuita. The broad seasoning of silly remarks which ac companied it was no doubt thrown In to appease the rustic appetites of we Medford yokels, but otherwise it was darn good. If I could ride a bi cycle like that I could at least quit worrying about getting my new ahoe shine all wet on these rainy days, If that makes any difference to you. 10 DEGREES ON FRIDAY Friday night, February 8 at Ma sonic hall, Medford lodge No. 103.
