PGE FOUR MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE, MEDFORD, OHEGOy, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 13, 1931 PLANS LAID FOR Mis Lucille Slcalfa of Bllverton, Or., and Miss May Bonham of pho. six, In charge of the nursery school which vlU open In Med lord next Monday, met with heads of several of the city's clvlo and teachers or ganizations Wednesday to outline final detail of the school. Representatives of the cltya P.-T. A. societies, of the American Legion, the Lions club and the county re lief committee were present and will combine with leaders of various other organizations In promoting a cam- palgn to collect equipment for the school. Miss Bkaire, director, win oe In charge, with Miss Bonham as her assistant. The school will be opened at tern porary headquarters at Junior high, with an enrollment of six children trom 3 to 4 years of age. The enroll ment will grow to 10 or 13 the second week, and the school will finally attain a maximum attend ance of 25. Medford Lions club will furnish toys for the school, which Is being sponsored th rough the co-operation of many of the city's organizations. A nursery school council hae been tentatively appointed to supervise the work carried on by Misses Bkalfe and Bonham, who were employed for the project as relief teachers, through the Jackson county relief committee. Children of relief families will at tend for six hours dally, and will be cared for and Instructed In habit forming. The plan has been given trials In many parte of the state, ac cording to those In charge, and has met with success. 8ALEM, Dec. 13. (AP) Two hun dred and seventy previously unem ployed teachera are now teaching nursery schools and literacy, voca tional and general education classes under the emergency education pro gram, Charles A. Howard, superin tendent of publlo instruction, an nounced today. Approximately 6000 adults axe at tending the 374 educational classes being conducted In all but two counties in the state, Howard stated. City and county school superinten dents select the unemployed teachers and organize the classes In their re spective districts. New classes were being organized as fast aa the de mand arose and where unemployed and competent teachers were .avail able. U At the state convention of Oregon district attorneys. District Attorney Oeorge A. Codding of Jackson county will propose a resolution asking that the Oregon criminal syndicalism law revert back to its original form be fore changed by the legislature at Its 1938 session. The meet will be held In Portland, December 30, 31 and 32. The last legislative session revised the criminal syndicalism law until law enforcing agencies claim It lost much of It force. A movement, backed by Portland Interests, Is now under way to have the syndicalism law stricken from ths statutes. One of the grounds advanced la that It Infringes on the constitutional rights of free speech and free press. Prosecutions under the criminal syndicalism law have been few, less than half a dozen being tried. Ths past six months there have been two convictions one Involving Dirk DeJonge, Portland communist candidate for mayor at the last elec tlon. DeJonge was sentenced to seven years In state prison. The other con viction waa directed against Kyle Pugh, found guilty by a Jackson county Jury last Saturday and sen tenced to a five-year term. Notice of appeal to the supreme court has been served In both cases. Pugh waa found guilty of ths ssle, possession, distribution and public display of communistic literature In this county last September. Elks Lodge Cat Back In Temple The Elks' lodge cat "Tiger" that disappeared from the temple last Sun day evening was roturncd yesterday by a mall man who found the cat on West Jackson street. "Tiger," after eating a supper of hamburger and cream, showed signs of running awny again, so was locked up In a closet until he sgain becomes reconciled to his regular home. The disappearance of the pet caused considerable distress smong the mem bers. His last vanishment was the second within the month.
