It has ben her good fortune, to claim champion golfers, and she once pos sessed a champion boxer, althougb hst waa some time ago. Blue ribbon pears and apples have long been the order of the day, and records were at one time shattered regularly at the fairground race-tracks, both In the horse and automobile fields. Now It Is Med ford's honor to claim aa a world's champion at laying epga, ! a White Leghorn hen. Lady May, owned by Mrs. R. E. Carley, of the North Pacific highway. Rt. 3, Boi 98, according to a news article In the Oregon Farmer for November 15. Lady May has laid 360 eggs In 36& days, a record surpassed only by ft I New Zealand Black Orphington, which is said to have produced 301 eggs In 1030. The local hen's record was kept dally by Mrs. Carley. who trapnested her. Lady May, whose an cestry can be traced back 34 years, laid her first "cackle-berry" October 30, 1033. Beginning February 37. 1934, she laid, without missing a day. for 148 consecutive days. She observed no holidays during the year, disre garding everything from Hallowe'en to Fourth of July. Likewise, she worked every Sunday but two and took off only one Saturday after noon. Lady May shows no particular ex citement over this achievement, and relgna over her court In the Carley chicken yard quite regally and un perturbed. She will accept visitors I there If they wish to gaze upon I her charms, but granU no private Interviews. The hen was bought from J. A. Tlcnnen of Corvallls as a bsby chick. New hog-corn contracts with the federal government In the hog-corn control program for the coming yeai are expected to be available by De cember 1, according to the county agent's office. The final hog-corn payment la scheduled to be made by Febbruary 1, 1933. Payments to date, In this county under the hog contracts, total close to ii 0,000 and for the wheat control program $18,000. County Agent Robert O.
