(UP) Duron Pitta, district attorney or Los Angeles and former lieutenant go-M-nor of California, was indicted by the county grand Jury last night on perjury charges growing out of the so-called "Hollywood love mart' oase. Indicted with him was the prose cutor's sister and confidential sec retary, erthel Fltts Gregory. The history of the notorious Hol lywood case was recited to the Jury during Its Inquiry. Fltts appeared be fore Municipal judge WMDur o. cur' tls September 15, 1031. and moved to dismiss statutory chargea against Mills, William Jobclmann and Olive Clark Day, the latter two accused of operating a "love mart" ot which Mills was an alleged "customer." Fltts told the court he had Issued new complaints against Jobclmann and Mrs. Day charging they con. trlbuted to the delinquency of 16- year-old Clarice Tauber. When the Judge refused to dismiss tne tnree statutory complaints, Fltts announ ced that the state rested, giving Judge Curtis no alternative because of lack of prosecution evidence. When Jobelmann and Mrs. Day ap peared later for trial on the contrib uting charges, Mills failed to appear against them, and he was named a defendant with them. Eight daya lat r all three cases were dismissed be cause Clarice Tauber refused to tes tify. The grand Jury also Investigated a real estate deal between Fltts' par ants, Mr. and Mrs. Buff Fltts, and Lucten wheeler. Wheeler was a for mer Investigator In Fltts' office and later, aa a private operative, was hired by Mills In his elaborate de fense against the charges. By a coincidence, the Indictments were returned exactly six years after Fltts' predecessor and mentor, the lata District Attorney Asa Keyes. waa Indicted by the 1928 grand Jury on charges of bribery. Fltts vigorously prosecuted Keyes and secured his conviction, the former official serv ing 19 months in San Quentln. Chamber lain of Corvallls, department com mander of the American Legion, will be the main speaker, having arrived in Medford en route home from tbo national convention recently held ai Miami, Fla. He also told of his crip to and from the con vention and the conditions he en countered In various districts of the country. Particularly enlightening was his description of the situation at New Orleans, and of Huey Long's regime. Shortly after Mr. Chamberlain ar rived this morning he told of the convention as he saw It, saying that the key speech of the conclave was given by Oregon Senator Fred Btel wer, which "took the assembly by torm." Mr. Chamberlain declared that Oregon waa exceedingly fortu nate in having Harold Warner of Pendleton elected national vice com mander, and Dewey Powell of Klam ath Falls, chosen national vice com mander of the 40 et a. The state commander stated the main object of the Legion for the conuug year Is the endeavor to gut through a universal draft bill, and to wage a strong fight against com munism In all Its forms. He said that the Legion believes there la no better way to create purchasing pow er than to pay Immediately the ad justment compensation certificate. The payment of this debt will not Increase the national debt, he said, and will remove a burden from local communities. Dolce first read the burn ing love letters and amorous poetry exchanged between hi wife and youthful Lamar Holllngshead the night before he killed the 23-year-old poet, a prosecution witness testified today at Doke's trial for his life. Mrs. Elizabeth In gels, who carried the letters and love verse between Holllngshead and Helen Louise Dolce, made this revelation. "I told Mr. Doke I had some let ters. We sat and talked for two hours." she said. Next day the 34-year-old dairy In spector went to a ranch where Hol llngshead. was employed, and shot him. Her testimony climaxed a day cf dogged effort by the prosecution, led by District Attorney C. C. McDonald, to prove that Doke was the man who ahot Holllngshead, and to establish the fact he went to the ranch with the announced purpose of "settling some family trouble."
