Dunn of Aahland, ohalrm&n, will Inspect roads and bridges of Jackson county tomorrow and Saturday, to gain first hand in formation on maintenance and re pair needs. Next week the- budge: committee will take up one of the major problems confronting It what to do about the county roads. On many of the county roads no repairs or maintenance has been made for three or four years, owing to fin ancial stringency, with the result they are beginning to show the ef fects of wear and tear. On some routes the county stands & good chance of losing Its Investment un less work Is done. Borne of the bridges are In bad shape and if any thing should happen the resultant damage suit would more than offset cost of repairs In time. It Is expected that the road appro prlation will be higher than last year but not enough to cause any claim of extravagance. It will be large enough to provide for maintenance, solely as a means of preserving what baa already been spent. County Judge Day said today that appropriations for county manage ment would be practically the same s last year. He further stated that all the county departments would close the year within their budget. This has been accomplished, Judge Day said, by rigid economy and close watching of pennies. He said that some departments had asked for in creases, but they had been balanced by decreases on other Items. Practi cally all departments filed for salary Increases, but none was granted. Work of preparing the budget this year was simplified by the efficiency methods employed last year, giving the budget committee a sound basis upon which to make appropriations. It looks like the budget would be completed by November 1, the legal time. A public hearing on the bud get will be called early In November, date and place to be announced later. TRIAL OP CROW Evan L. Crow, local youth held by federal authorities for the alleged passing of a forged money order last May on a Boise, Idaho, drug store manager, Is still held by the govern ment in the Multnomah county Jail awaiting an order of removal to the Jurisdiction of the Idaho federal court, according to federal aides in this city in attendance at the south ern Oregon term of the federal couit. Crow has been Indicted by the fed eral grand Jury for the Idaho dis trict. Crow was bound over by United States Commissioner Victor A. Teng- wald following a hearing. The gov ernment alleged he passed the forged money order of May 28 last. Crow or fered a number of witnesses to show that he was in this city and Grants Pass at the time he was supposed to be in Biose, and that it was a physi cal tmposlbillty for him to commit the alleged crime. BOGUS BILL CASE A hearing was held yesterday by Justice of the Pence William B. Cole man In the "small claims" action ot A. L. Vroman against Amy Fader oi tills city, for 20, allegedly due on ac count. Decision in the case waa de ferred pending presentation of more testimony and evidence by the de fendant. The action Is unique. Mrs. Fader paid the account with a '20 bill, which later turned out to be spur ious. Ita worthlessness waa not de tected until it passed through a Portland bank. Vroman paid an ac count with a Portland llrm with the bill. It la the defendant's contention that she paid the bill in good faltn and holds that she should not be re quired to pay It again. 8he pre sented receipts for Its payment. Aonea Hardman. a resident of Med ford for the past ten years passed away In a local hospital early Thurs day morning at the age of 64 years. She Is survived by lour sons and one daughter, Bert, Wm. Lehl R., Cyril J., Virgil L., and Ids Elotse Hart, all of Med ford.
