Daughter! 01 the American Revolution, met Satur day. September 22. at the home ot Mrs. J. O. Grey, with 23 members In attendance. A beautiful memorial service was read for four membera who have left the chapter during the past year, Mri. Lillian Btelger. Mrs. Nettle Har ris, Mn. Alice A. Sargent, and Mra. Eva McDonald. The calendar com mittee was highly commended for Its work In planning the attractive year books which were distributed. A great deal of routine business was disposed of during the unusually lengthy business session, and many plans were formulated for the coming year's work. Mrs. M. M. Morris, the retiring re gent, was presented with her past re gent's bar, which carried with It the gratitude and appreciation of the chapter for her splendid work during her term. Mrs. O. Q. D'AIblnt reviewed a book on "Immigration," by Dr. Harry H. Laughlln. which was a topic In which the speaker Is well-versed and much Interested. The point emphasized by : s. D'Alblnl was the great need of tin country for more adequate pro tection from undesirable Immigrants. Following the adjournment of the business meeting, Mrs. H. T. W. Spll ver, regent, presided at the tea table, where delicious refreshments were served by Mrs. Volney Dixon. Mrs. Virginia Walt. Mrs. R. B. Beeson and Mrs. P. J. Newman. f-f Olrls' Club Plans Party Tomorrow ?flght. The Girls' Community club will meet tomorrow at 7:30 p. m., at the club rooms on north Bartlett for a regular monthly meeting and social hour. Classes and activities which will be available during the coming year will be discussed, and all girls In the valley who are interested, are asked to attend bo that enrollments may be completed. Besides the busi ness meeting, the event will be one of the club's regular party nights. Mrs. Wilder Hostess To Golden Links Class. Mrs. R. S. Wilder of 713 Alder street will be hostess to the Golden Links class of the First Baptist church Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. As there will be election of officers. LVs to Meet In Grants Pass Thursday The Women's Christian Temperance Unions of Jackson and Josephine counties will meet In Grants Pass Thursday. September 27, for an all- day meeting. Elec tion of officers and other matters of Importance will be taken up lu the morning session, while an inter esting program has been prepared for the afternoon. Christian Endeavor Elects New Officers Sunday evening, at the meeting of the Senior Christian Endeavor group of the First Presbyterian church. Betty Dynan was elected president for the coming year. Other officers aelected were: First vice-president, Betty Purdtn: second vice-president, Don Price: secretary, Eleanor Todd: treasurer, Russell Ul rlch; and publicity, Billy Barnum. Miss Dynan succeeds Mary Cum mlngs aa president. Guild Committee Plana Annual Dinner At the home of Mrs. Lawrence Pen nlngon on the Jacksonville highway, a committee from the Crater Lake guild met last evening and made plans for the annual guild dinner to be held at the church next Monday evening, October 1. Members of the committee present were Mrs. H. Welshaar. Mrs. W. Q Cool, Mrs. Gerald Barr and Mrs. Hag-gerty. P. E. O.'s to Meet On Wednesday Mrs. A. W. Pipes and Mrs. E. B. Day will be hostesses tomorrow to the P. E. O's at the latter's home at 803 West Eleventh street. The meet ing will be dessert luncheon at 1 o'clock, with the business session following. CAVE-IN CLOSES SHAFT OF ASHLAND. Sept. 25. (Spl.) A huge cave-In at the Ashland mine last week completely closed the south shaft, between the "500" and "600" levels. One of the pumps with hose and attachments was buried and all pumping connections destroyed. This Is a downward continuation of the large cave encountered In the '500" level last spring. A crew has been engaged for several months In an effort to repair this section of the mine and work was In progress in an attempt to reach the "GOO" level when the cave cloed the shaft.
