Its work In planning the attractive
year books which were distributed.
A great deal of routine business
was disposed of during the unusually
lengthy business session, and many
plans were formulated for the coming
year's work.
Mrs. M. M. Morris, the retiring re
gent, was presented with her past re
gent's bar, which carried with It the
gratitude and appreciation of the
chapter for her splendid work during
her term.
Mrs. O. Q. D'AIblnt reviewed a book
on "Immigration," by Dr. Harry H.
Laughlln. which was a topic In which
the speaker Is well-versed and much
Interested. The point emphasized by
: s. D'Alblnl was the great need of
tin country for more adequate pro
tection from undesirable Immigrants.
Following the adjournment of the
business meeting, Mrs. H. T. W. Spll
ver, regent, presided at the tea table,
where delicious refreshments were
served by Mrs. Volney Dixon. Mrs.
Virginia Walt. Mrs. R. B. Beeson and
Mrs. P. J. Newman.

Olrls' Club Plans
Party Tomorrow ?flght.
The Girls' Community club will
meet tomorrow at 7:30 p. m., at the
club rooms on north Bartlett for a
regular monthly meeting and social
hour. Classes and activities which
will be available during the coming
year will be discussed, and all girls
In the valley who are interested, are
asked to attend bo that enrollments
may be completed. Besides the busi
ness meeting, the event will be one
of the club's regular party nights.

Schuchard. formerly ot this city, to

day session tomorrow at the grange

Plana Annual Dinner
At the home of Mrs. Lawrence Pen
nlngon on the Jacksonville highway,
a committee from the Crater Lake
guild met last evening and made
plans for the annual guild dinner to
be held at the church next Monday
evening, October 1.
Members of the committee present
were Mrs. H. Welshaar. Mrs. W. Q
Cool, Mrs. Gerald Barr and Mrs. Hag-gerty.

On Wednesday

feet by Mahoney followers. Watklns
pocketed his spectacles and took a
stance as several of the more out
raged club members moved toward
him with a show of violence.
Dewey Brown, chairman and head
of the so-called Oregon Democratic
league, stepped Into command of the
situation. The meeting broke up In
confusion but without bloodshed.
CAVE-IN CLOSES
SHAFT OF
ASHLAND. Sept. 25. (Spl.) A
huge cave-In at the Ashland mine
last week completely closed the south
shaft, between the "500" and "600"
levels. One of the pumps with hose
and attachments was buried and all
pumping connections destroyed.
This Is a downward continuation of
the large cave encountered In the
'500" level last spring. A crew has
been engaged for several months In
an effort to repair this section of the
mine and work was In progress in an
attempt to reach the "GOO" level when
the cave cloed the shaft.
