The process has revealed that, al though they haven't thought much about them for a long time, the Chi nese have known about aun spots tor a very long time. The "Tu Shin Chlh Ch'eng." on of the greatest sources on Chinese matters historical, relatea that aun apota were noted and studied In this land as early aa 38 B. O. There was more discovery and observation In 38 B. C, 188 A. D. and 800 A. D. Be tween 800 and 1618, 66 obaervatlona of aun apots and eight of sun shad ows were recorded. The earliest obeervera called the sun spots "Hel Tsu," or black apots, and they noted what they called "Hsi Ohl," or black ahadowa. Consist ently the Chinese observers made distinction between sun spots and black shadows. The Chinese, who don't keep their minds on sny one thing tor sny great length ef time snyway, were a bit erratic tn the observation and study of the eun's antlce.
