tion waa reetrlcted to a few very light
showers. Insufficient to be of ma
terial benefit to agriculture. A few
days were characterised as partly
eloudy and one as totally cloudy.
During the opening week tempera
turos were moderate and mild weath
er was enjoyed. Beginning the 6th
temperatures lifted to higher levels
and continued above normal tnrougn-
out the balance of the month. A

Traces of rainfall were recorded on

tation falling, was recorded on the

of an Inch. The rainfall aeason end
ing August 81 shows a total seasonal
amount of 11.04 lnchea and as com
pnred with the normal Is deficient

In 1011 there has been but one rain
fall season showing a greater defi
ciency. The period September 1,
1B28, to August 81, 1024. shows a
seasonal total of 10.S8 Inches, or a
shortage of 7.60 Inches.
In the evening of the 27th follow
ing a day of sultry depressing weath
er with thunderntorms developing
over surrounding mountain areas
heavy southeasterly winds swept the
valley for about an hour beginning
approximately at 8:S0 p. m. A maxi
mum velocity for a, flve-mlnut pe
riod registered 42 miles per hour dur
ing one of the heavier blows. Ousts
estimated to have attained a velocity
of 60 miles per hour were observed
at tlmea. Reports Indicated that
damage In some pear orchards was
quite severe, and lighter losses were
also sustained In apple orchards.
