IVIES OF FIGHT TERRIBLELACING Wonder Baer Didn't Break Italian's Neck in First Round Primo's Ankle Alibi Called Bit of Baloney By ALAN OOULD Associated Press Sports Writer The two thing that Impressed me moat after aeelng the Baer-Carnera brawl all over again In the moTlea were (1) the outstanding persistence with which Camera foroed the fight, even when he waa moet badly hurt ' and kept oontlnuallj employing the only weapon at hla command, a left '.. Jab. and (3) the probability that If the Italian man-mountain chipped hie ankle bone in the fight at all it happened In either the 8th or 19th rounds, when he waa very wobbly and going down In aeotlona, The pictures clearly substantiate the terrific right-hand beating that the giant absorbed and offer argu ment for a return match only on the basis of tbe consistent courage with which Camera carried the fight to his heavler-hlttlnit opponent. Camera must have landed at least 100 (tiff Jabs to various parte of Baer's grinning or aoowung features, yet altogether they did not do much damage as the first right-hand that dropped Primo In the first round. The difference In the power and leverago behind the blow of the two men Is amulngly clear In the movies but tbe giant's recuperative power appear equally astonishing. Strange as it aeems by comparison with the actual ringside evidence, the pictures show Camera going strong. boxing effectively and consistently outpointing Baer from the fourth to ninth round) Inclusive. No man with a broken ankle could etui bounce around on his toe for eight or nine round without the lightest sign of a limp. Re-Match Unnecessary Alibis are Just aa much a part oi the fight game as the extravagant and reckless statement attributed beforehand to the principal. If all of the excuse made for Camera were legitimate, he would appear the most unfortunate of all championship vic tims. But the fact Is that moat of his bad luck waa wrapped up In Baer's tuts. Although It 1 distinctly possible that a return Baer-Carnera match can be steamed up, either late this season or next spring, I would not expect the Italian to last as long the next time.
