This amount Ls estimated to total about 70,000,000 strips of gum, or about that many chews. The traditional Chinese equivalent of gum Is the watermelon seed of which tons and tons are consumed each year throughout the width and breadth of this vast land. The Insanity warrant- was sworn out by Police Inspector Al Sturzlnger, one of the officers who finally per suaded Bennett to abandon his mad scheme yesterday, and the subject was taken to a psychopathic ward fomexaminatlon. These proceedings followed a report by Dr. O. D. Hamlin, county physic ian, that a "cycle of mental depres sion" was responsible for Bennett's fearsome plot.
