Goes to Portland Mrs. Art Endrls left by train Sunday evening for Portland, to spend a week visiting friends in that city. Craft Coming Roy Craft ol Eu gene, who has been on duty with the Civilian Conservation corps at the Eugene headquarters. Is expected to arrive here this week-end. Meeting Postponed -Meeting of the Women of Rotary scheduled for Wed nesday, has been postponed for two weeks, due to the death Sunday of Mrs. John Perl. Returns from Alabama Mrs. H. B. Harlow of the Applegate section, who has been visiting In Barnesvllle, Ge, , since December, returned here this morning by train, from the south. . On Business Visit William McGee, a representative of the Cinderella Stores, arrived in Med ford today from Boise, Ida., to visit the local Cinder ella, organization. Mr. Kllborn Leaves George Kll born, trainmaster for the Southern Pacific company, who was attending to business matters here, left on the Shasta thla forenoon for Roseburg. Goes to Salem P. 5K. Nalley left today on the Shasta for Salem, where tomorrow the Nalley case, appealed from Jackson county, will be argued in the supreme court. Visitors In Ashland Local folk who were visitors In Ashland early this week were Mra. A. W. Aya, Miss Dor othy Rodgers and Mr .and Mrs. C. E. Gates; Mr. Whitehead In Hospital R. H. Whitehead, who underwent an oper ation at the Sacred Heart hospital yesterday, was today reported aa rest-i ing comfortably, and his condition was said by the attending physlclen to be satisfactory. Mr. Whitehead, who 1 87 years old. Is one of the oldest persons ever to be operated on at the local hospital. Being a mem ber of the Masonic lodge for a num ber of years, his friends have remem bered him, and sent many beautiful flowers. He has resided here 43 years. - io Attend Funeral Members of Olive Rebekah lodge are asked to meet at the I. O. O. P. hall Wednes lay at 1:30 p. m., to attend the fu neral services for Sister Nellie Perl. m Postpone Concert The Jacksonville orange Chorus concert which was an nounced for May 3, has been post poned one week. It will take place at the Grange hall in the Jacksonville courthouse, Wednesday evening, May y, at s:is o'clock. Entertain Mothers Circle society of the First Christian church will meet this evening in the church par lors at 7:30 o'clock, honoring the mothers. Nomination of officers for the coming year will also be held to night. Hardy of Ashland, who. were guests here of Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Gass. Mrs. Hardy and Mrs. Gass are sisters. Also here were Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Cummlngs and son Junior of Klamath Falls, and Miss Beth Cummlngs, student at the Southern Oregon Normal school. On Business Trip Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Brault and daughter Charmalne, who left here Sunday for California, plain to remain in the south this week. Charmalne will remain with frlenda In Alameda, while Mr. and Mrs. Brault will be In San Francisco, where Mr. Brault will attend to busi ness In connection with the Southern Oregon Gas corporation of which he is general manager. On Pinal Inspection Major James R. Biblghaus, district surgeon for the Civilian Conservation corps, la leaving today for Camp Dog Lake in the Lake- view area, as the first stop in his tour of Inspection, which will take in all 20 camps in the Medford district. She will e with the Chamber of Commerce of fices here, assisting with the extra work as the result of preparations for the Jubilee. t Brings Wagons Here Ten wagons, drawn by four horses, were brought into Medford this morning from the Table Rock section by W. E. (Shorty) Morris, for use in the Oregon Dia mond Jubilee parade. Ploata will be constructed on the wagons, according to J. Verne Sh angle, chairman of the parade committee. Hlnmani Return Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hlnman of West Tenth street return ed last evening from a visit with their son and daughter-tn-law, Mr. and Mrs. Llorln Hlnman, in Portland. They also motored on from Portland to Yakima, Wash., to visit a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Earl VanLeeuwen. Keys Relieved Lieutenant James E. Keys, 17th Cav.-Res., who has been on duty at Applegate CCC camp since It was established a year ago, is being discharged from service today, at the expiration of a year's active duty. Soule, head quarter adjutant for the Civilian Conservation Corpe In Medford, de livered an Interesting address on China at the weekly luncheon today of the Medford Rotary club. A num ber of lady Rotarlans were also present to hear the splendid talk, arranged under the direction of C. D. Bean and George Henselman. Lieutenant Soule, who spent several yeara In China and other parte of the Orient with the American army and who was Identified with Intelli gence activities In that section of the world, opened his talk with a de scription of China and explained the transportation and communication restrictions which has accounted for the provincialism of that great coun try. In the opinion of the speaker, the Improvement of transportation facilities will eventually result In greater unity In China. The history of the Chinese race and the tax burden that has always been Imposed upon the peasant was next described by Lieutenant Soule. The unique tax situation la a problem for all nations engaged In business. In China and has undoubtedly retarted Imports into the Interior provinces, according to the speaker. The Chinese national government is more concerned with its own In ternal problems than the situation In Manchuria of the past two years. Soule ea!d. Students of that country predict that Manchukuo will eventu ally return to Chinese supervision, due to the preponderance of Chinese population In the country now under Japanese mandate, although several hundred years will elapse before this Is effected and China is sufficiently unified, In Lieutenant Soule's opinion. The speaker concluded his interest ing talk with a discussion of the Chi nese language, of which he Is a stu dent. A comparison of Chinese and Japanese class distinction waa also covered.
