(AP) An Incresse of 39 per nt In new lumber business for the first quarter of 1834 over the 1833 period iu reported to dsy by the National Lumber Manu facturers' association. The survey alio showed production 8 per cent higher and shipments 33 per eent heavier than for the flrat quarter laat year. Orders received at the law mllla the last three months were S per eent above production and shipment 7 per cent below. The report ahowed orders above output for the quarter In alt softwood sreas except the west cosst snd California Redwood, the totsl softwood orders exceeding cut ting by 4 per cent, while hsrdwood orders were 8 per cent below produc tion. During the week ending Maroh 31, the report said shipments totaling 303.484.000 feet, from 1473 mills, were the highest of any week In 1334 while production of 103.483.000 feet and orders of 304,783.000 feet dropped slightly from the preceding week, PORTLAND, April 8. (AP) New business totaling 47,488,000 feet, about 10 per cent sbove the 3-yesr weekly average for March, but one per cent under the total for the pre vloua week, waa reported by the West ern Pine association today for the week ending March 81. .Shipments for the week were 4,8, 408,000 feet and production 33.041,000 feet, an Increase In production of 1,313,000 feet. & Current orders for the week were 48,710.000 feet, compared with 37.408. 000 feet for the corresponding week a year ago, AT C. The Thompson Creek school, which hat been recognized not only in the Applegate community but by county school officials ss well as one which has forged ahead and accomplished much In the face Of a depression, Is sponsoring a benefit party at the Applegate hall Saturday evening, April 7. The Jakson county teach era' chorus Is co-operating and pro ceeds will be divided between the school and the teachers' group. At I p. m. the teachers' chorus will present a program consisting of about 38 numbers, which will last an hour and a half. Remainder of the evening will be devoted to old-fashioned games ' and dancing, with a good dance orchestra provided by the chorus. Lunch will be served at mid night. A good time Is assured and everybody Is welcome. The Thompson Creek school, taught by Miss June Rudd, has already ac quired a tennis court and Is to be complimented on other equipment In doors aa well as on the playground.
